“Her dragon has been suppressing it,” Arleth said. “She was defying nature, and now it’ll cost them. Let’s just make sure it doesn’t cost us all.”

“What do you meant it’ll cost them?” I asked, pulled farther away by Delaney.

“You know how you like rage fucking, Finley?” Hadriel asked as he crawled over the table toward Dessia to get away. “Well, given how worked up he already is, you’re about to get a hard ride.”

This is your doing, you know. You didn’t want us to fuck earlier, so here we are. I’m looking forward to it, though. If things get too crazy, the dragon and I can always take over.

What about all the times Nyfain and I had sex as humans? I thought as a menacing growl ripped out of Nyfain’s throat. Everything’s been perfectly normal. Why is he like this now?

Because the golden dragon and I were taking the edge off. It comes in waves, and when we feel it rising, we take to the sky, fuck until he fills me with his seed, and safely return so that you and the human can do it at your leisure. But hey, it’s fine. He’ll work you in hard now, and then we can share the heat while it lasts, huh? Won’t that be fun?

Nyfain’s arm finally came away from the back of the chair. He grabbed the edge of my seat and then ripped it backward. The chair went flying, barely missing Tamara and Arleth and hitting two people near the wall.

Look at him, he’s like some sort of wild thing, I thought.

Yes, he is. And when that wild thing captures you, he’s going to rip off that dress and fuck you senseless. If you don’t want that to happen in this room, you better get the fuck out of here. I’m good with whatever. As long as his dick is in us and everyone else clears out, he shouldn’t need to kill anyone.

What the holy fuck had I gotten myself into?

Nyfain rose slowly, like he was uncoiling, and my knees went weak at the sight. Saliva pooled in my mouth, and wetness dribbled down my inner thigh.

Unable to help it, my body on fire, so aroused I could barely think, I took a step toward him. Hands grabbed me, ripping me around and pushing me away.

“Is she okay?” Calia cried.

“She’ll be good,” Hadriel replied. “She loves rage fucking; this shouldn’t be too much different. The mighty vagina can take some real pounding. Well, I don’t have to tell you that. Don’t worry, she’ll be fine.”

Weston, Micah, and Vemar rushed by me, giving me a wide berth, hurrying to stand in front of Nyfain.

“Arleth, stay behind to stall him,” Tamara said as more of my guard joined her. They pushed me ahead of them, jogging now. “Delaney, you too. He won’t want to go through you two.”

Those two broke off as we tried to push past people who didn’t have the sense to get away.

“Clear a path, you idiots!” Tamara yelled. “An alpha in heat is about to come through.”

A roar followed us out the door, thick and heady, a sound that shouldn’t be able to come from a human throat.

“Why isn’t he chasing us?” Jade asked, looking over her shoulder as we turned the corner.

The rising tide within the bond was answer enough. I could feel his adrenaline. The desire he didn’t want to control. The touch of mischief.

“He’s counting down,” I said, shoving them away but still jogging with them. A surge of matching adrenaline tore through me. I couldn’t help a giddy laugh.

“Counting down to what?” Tamara asked as they ushered me toward the stairs.

“He’s giving me a head start,” I said. “Then the chase is on.”

“Are you insane or something?” someone asked from the back. “This doesn’t seem like something to be excited about. You’d best go somewhere quiet and try to calm him down when he gets to you. He didn’t look like a guy I would want after me in that state.”

“She’s a dragon, and he’s her mate,” someone else said. “She knows what she’s getting, and crazy or not, clearly she likes it.”

“I do not understand dragons,” the other, obviously a wolf, replied.

I let them run me up the stairs as Tamara yelled at all the staff to scatter before the incensed alpha came through. She needn’t have bothered. He didn’t want anyone else. He only wanted me, and he wanted me with a fire I could barely understand. A fire I felt deep down in my very core, burning, pulsing.

When we reached the king’s suite, I stopped them from stripping me, from trying to wash me. I forced them to leave, saying I’d be okay, that I’d ensure no one came to harm after he found me.

Uneasy but unable to deny me, both because of my station and my weaponized will, they left, and I got to work.
