As if in a trance, zero fight in her now, the little dragon flew close, clearly enraptured by the feeling thrumming between and within us.

A dragon’s mating call. He was going all out.

She fluttered her wings and curled through the air around him, quick and darting, barely sliding against the tip of his tail before fluttering her wings against his underside. He purred loudly, liking his little mate’s attentions, staying stoic in the sky as he pumped his erotic mixture of sound and feeling through the air, spurring her on.

I felt Finley through the bond, and I sank into that special place where we seemed to share one soul. She gripped me as tightly as I gripped her, feeling each other as our dragons did their dance.

The magic entwined through us all, the four-way bond pulling all of us together. I heard Finley’s purr now, and it matched my dragon’s. I felt their love and excitement, their desire. And then it was happening, the dragons locking together and hurtling through the air, wings and teeth and claws all scrabbling for purchase as they tried to figure things out. When they did, I felt my dragon’s eyes flutter closed as he sank into his mate for the first time, seated exactly as he’d always wanted. Exactly as he’d envisioned it.

The dragons clung together, the wind rushing by them, their pleasure pumping through us all. I would’ve groaned if I could’ve, and I could sense Finley’s answering pleasure. The feeling was indescribable. The danger, the height, the falling, all while entwined with a lover. All while giving and taking from each other, sharing everything we were and holding nothing back.

The trees swam into view. The ground spun up to meet us.

My dragon pushed away before pumping his wings, getting his bearing and watching to make sure his mate did the same. When she steadied herself, they soared upward again, swirling around each other, reaching high and then crashing together again, nimbler and more confident this time. He fit into her like a last puzzle piece: perfection. Their pleasure rose—all of our pleasure rose—as we fell. He plunged in deep, and she held on, receiving him in ecstasy. Their purrs were a cacophony, their bodies merged as one. And then Finley’s dragon growled before she bit into him, claiming us again, only this time in dragon form.

My dragon let out a loud roar of victory as he released into her for the first time. I felt her climax through the bond, the dragon shuddering against us. She held his flesh in her teeth as we continued to tumble, all of us coming down from the pleasure, Finley and I holding each other tightly through the bond.

Soon, though, the dragons had to shove back from each other and get their bearings. They weren’t ready to go back to the castle, though. They weren’t ready to let the “two legs” take over. Instead, they made lazy tours around the kingdom, inviting other dragons up to join them, soaring and dipping, playing by each other’s side. Those who couldn’t fly filled the villages and crowded the open spaces, watching us pass overhead. Many pointed; some shifted and ran on the ground under us. It seemed like the whole kingdom had turned out to see the royal pair glide through the sky in all their glory.

Finley had given this to me.

There weren’t words for what I felt.

It wasn’t until the coming of the afternoon, when the burn of flight was settling into my dragon’s bones, and Finley had started to lag, that we finally headed back to the castle. We touched down, Finley having mastered her landing, and shifted. I was barely back in my body again before I had her in my arms, hugging her tightly and walking her back to the castle. We wouldn’t be doing anything today but basking in each other’s touch.

“We’re moving the coronation closer,” I told her as I walked her in through the back of the castle. “We’re ready. I want you as my official queen, and then I want to take on the world.”

“You look gorgeous, dove,” Hadriel said, looking over Leala’s handiwork as she put the finishing touches on my look for the coronation. “You’re going to steal the show.”

“I can’t believe this is real,” I said as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

The likeness of me looked back, softer than I remembered, with gold-flecked eyes underneath a large, stately crown. Jewels adorned the band, climbing up in four sections to meet at the top in a spire topped with a large ruby, twinkling for all to see. The velvet covering my head was supposed to match the scales of the king’s dragon, but Nyfain had altered the practice. My velvet was burgundy to match the scales of my dragon, and his would be gold.
