Don’t fuck with the locals of Lost Creek. If you do, there’s a good chance you might just get lost.

He took a bite out of his waffle and swathed it through the maple syrup. Putting it into his mouth, he closed his eyes and was once again in Heaven.

“Meeting new people is good. It’s good for business, and if we see this as an advantage, then we’ll make it out alive.”

Amy laughed. “Spoken like a good businessman.”

“You know today’s Friday?” he asked.

“Yeah, so it is,” she said. She looked past his shoulder and got to her feet. “Duty calls, but if a certain bar is open tonight, I might just see you there.”

It was why he opened on a Friday. Amy didn’t have many habits he could pin down, but every Friday, she liked to dance, have a drink, and unwind. He noticed she never drank too much. A bottle, two at a push, and she never flirted. She usually turned down offers to dance, although sometimes she would take a local up on the offer. Never a tourist.

She was a woman who knew her own mind, what she wanted, and he found that addictive to watch. He couldn’t resist glancing behind him and staring at her round, shapely ass. The full curves were more enticing than ever before. He felt an answering pull in his dick, reminding him it had been a long time since he’d been with a woman.

Screwing around had been fun. He’d even enjoyed a few of the tourists during his early years, but that was a long time ago. Daniel had never considered himself the settling down type, but as he watched Amy, he couldn’t help but feel drawn to her. She was a woman no man had been able to pin down. She was a mystery, and yet at the same time, not at all.

He delved into his waffles, taking another large bite, knowing he could gladly spend all day watching her. Especially as she had seen his bruised knuckles and not even said a word about it. She hadn’t even asked where he got them.

Amy truly was special.

Chapter Two

Stepping into The Reaper bar, Amy saw how busy it was, not that this was any surprise to her. He didn’t have a band playing, but music came from the jukebox in the corner. She usually liked when there was a band, but the music was pretty good. No one was able to change any song until it played in full.

There was already a lot of shouting. Couples intertwined on the dance floor, having a good time.

Before heading to the bar, she’d gone home to change. She now lived in her parents’ house, as she actually put her grandparents’ house up for rent. There was a nice family living in it now. She didn’t have any complaints from them, and she did go and do random checks.

Being a landlord wasn’t something she wanted, but she also couldn’t bring herself to sell her grandparents’ home. They had worked their whole lives to get that house, and she wasn’t going to sell it.

When she asked her grandmother about her parents’ house, and why she had kept it, her grandmother said she knew one day Amy would get older and need the space as well as her independence, away from home. This is why she would never sell it.

Amy couldn’t help but wonder if she had children one day, if they would want a house of their own when they were older. She was always making plans for the future.

Stepping up to the bar, she saw August approach. “Evening, beautiful,” he said.

She rolled her eyes. “Evening, August.”

He blew her a kiss. “What can I get for you, because trust me when I say this, you can have anything. Just say the word, and you can have anything your little heart desires.”

She couldn’t help but laugh. “Just a beer.”

“Are you sure I can’t tempt you with something more?”

Shaking her head, she tried to stifle her laugh. August was a good guy, but he seemed to think he was a gift to all women, and in all honesty, she believed he could be. She didn’t have time to go to the doctor to deal with whatever sexual disease he carried.

He popped the lid off the beer and handed it to her.

“Keep an eye on it, beautiful, a lot of people around, and I don’t recognize them all.”

She had already placed her thumb across the lid.

There were always risks in their little town. Amy couldn’t remember an incident of a spiked drink, but that didn’t mean it didn’t happen.

August had to deal with more customers, and Amy turned to stare out at the rest of the bar. It was busy tonight. She had forgotten how crazy it could get on a Friday night. It had been a long week. There was no sign of Penelope, but she did answer her phone earlier, and was sniffling as another man had taken what he wanted and left without a word.
