He took over from there so I could put my own hands to better use. Like reaching behind me to touch him wherever I could reach.

“My beautiful slut boy,” he whispered against my neck. “I realized somethin’ tonight.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Mm.” He returned my hand to my cock, then gripped my hips tightly. Fuck yeah. “I can lock you up in an ivory tower and keep you to myself… I’ll worry and get insecure again. Or…”

Or…?

I closed my eyes at a hard thrust and let the sting bleed into the pleasure.

“Or I can embrace the exhilaration I felt tonight,” he murmured, out of breath. “Where I owned you even when you were surrounded by other men.”

I whimpered.

He finally got it. He got it.

I wasn’t gonna get on a high horse; it’d taken me forever to come to the same realization. Neither of us had dared to open our relationship back in the day. But his grip had been fraught with more fear than mine.

“You had all my focus tonight,” I admitted.

“I know.” He hugged me to him from behind and stayed still inside me. “Poor Shay and Kit—you owe them better blow jobs.”

I spluttered a breathless laugh, mildly mortified. “In my defense, I had a lot of attention on me.”

“Mmm…and you were incredible to watch.” He nipped at my neck. “We’re going to make it, Macklin. Tonight was just the beginning.”

The relief that pummeled through me—I couldn’t describe it.

We’re going to make it.

Hope was such a strong drug.

“Oh my God, this is so nice…” I groaned and stretched out across the sunbed, and I reached for another handful of grapes.

I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the night than to lie right here beside my Master and look up at the millions and millions of stars above us.

Shay had been right earlier, of course. The Tops would never let us spend the night on the beach alone. And I shouldn’t have been surprised whatsoever to discover that the rock thing had just been a distraction and a way to get the ball rolling. They hadn’t given a fuck about actually finding the rock.

“It served its purpose when y’all were runnin’ around like mad before the playtime started.”

We’d go back to the island first thing tomorrow to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything, but for now, we were chilling on the boats. River, Reese, and Shay were on Master’s rental. Master and I had claimed the sunbed on Ty’s boat, and he and Lane were below.

I didn’t have to worry about my boy. The scene Ty had orchestrated had given Lane the emotional release he’d sorely needed, and he was already busy showing Ty his appreciation.

Colt, Kit, and Lucas had apparently rented their own boat, and they’d headed back to Ty’s island a while ago.

Shay and I should’ve seen their participation coming. Of course they’d be the wild cards that threw us off.

At the sound of a faint sniffle, I tore my gaze from the night sky and looked at Master. Oh no. Fear slammed right into me. Fear and worry.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh—don’t. Don’t.” He waved me off and quickly wiped the stray tear rolling down his temple. “I’m just bein’ a sentimental old fool.”

I frowned and scrambled to my knees next to him, shaking off the blanket in the process, and I could not abandon the grapes faster. “I love my sentimental old fool. Tell me what’s wrong before I freak out, Sir.”

He chuckled thickly and pushed himself up on his elbows. We only had a dim camping lantern for lighting, but it was enough to see the unshed tears in his eyes.

“I just missed you, Macklin. That’s all. I’m processin’.”

My heart.

I inched closer to him and grabbed his hand.

“I was rememberin’ how fuckin’ amazin’ we were together before it all went to shit,” he said quietly. “Before my mother passed—before you opened the restaurant.”

I nodded with a dip of my chin. Those were the times that’d fucked with my head for years to follow. When I’d felt deep within me that we were freaking soul mates. A notion I’d never believed in. I wasn’t sure I did today either. Actually, I knew I didn’t. And yet, falling so hard for Walker—the love we’d shared—defied all logic.

“I’m not giving up this time,” I told him. “I know we have so much to work out, but I think we can do it. You said earlier that you’re a different man today—and so am I. Not just kink-wise, you know. My priorities have shifted, I’m at another place in my life… I recycle and drive an electric scooter.”

He let out a rumbling laugh and tugged me down half on top of him.

I grinned and kissed him. “It looks like one of those retro Vespas, except it’s brand-new and gorgeous.”

“If I know you, you don’t drive it in the rain,” he murmured, eyes filled with amusement. So beautiful.
