Tamsin sat down on the edge of the bed and he saw her a little shaken. She removed the gloves from her hand. To do this, she had to remove the engagement band and wedding ring he slid on her finger two years ago. Once the glove was gone, she slid the rings back into place, where they belonged.

“What makes you think your dad said anything?”

To Mason it was like going back two years to when they were first married. Tamsin wouldn’t talk to him. She kept her fears and concerns to herself, and he found it difficult to reach her, no matter what he did or said.

“Damn it, Tamsin, don’t do this to me, or to us.”

“Do what?” she asked. Her eyes were wide as if she couldn’t comprehend what he was talking about, but he knew exactly what was happening. His father was coming between them, and he wasn’t going to allow that to happen. He couldn’t.

Tamsin meant way too much to him. He went to her, closing the distance between them, and kneeling on the floor. Putting his hands on her knees, he was thankful when she didn’t pull away from him. At least there was that. Two years ago, Tamsin struggled to accept his touch and did everything in her power to get away from him.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Look at me. If you don’t tell me, then you’re letting him win.”

Tamsin smiled at him and then she sighed after a few seconds. “You’re right, but you’re not going to like it.”

“Tell me.”

“He said that if you were not capable of making me pregnant, he was going to have to come and finish the job. He didn’t get a chance to say anything else, Jacob came to my rescue.” There was a soft smile on her lips, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, which he hated.

“I’m so sorry,” he said.

The moment Tamsin led him onto the dance floor, he knew it was a risk, and one he’d been more than willing to take for her, but at the same time, he’d known. His father always lurked and knew the right opportunity to strike.

“It’s not your fault.”

“He is my father.”

Tamsin chuckled. “And we don’t get to choose our parents.” She cupped his cheek. “Stop worrying.”

“I don’t like it when he knows there is nothing I can do.”

“We don’t go to many of those events, and trust me, next time I will know not to be lured by being alone with you on the dance floor.” She offered him another smile. This one was a little brighter. “What do you say? Deal?”

“Deal.”

He gripped the back of her neck and pulled her in close, and he just couldn’t resist taking a kiss.

Mason expected her to pull away, to try and attempt some distance between them, but she didn’t. Her hands went to his chest and at first, he couldn’t help but feel his heart sink. He didn’t want Tamsin to pull away from him. Not because of any deals their parents had made either. He loved being close to her and didn’t want that to end.

She was like a fire inside him, one he didn’t wish to put out. The last two years had been the best and worst of his life. Tamsin living with him had been brilliant. The worst part about living with her was the fact she had wanted a separate room, which also made sense. Mason hadn’t wanted to be with her intimately because she had been too young in his eyes. Also, he’d wanted to do everything he possibly could to build trust. He didn’t want to hurt her or disappoint her, like everyone else in her life.

Tamsin let out a moan, and he couldn’t resist tracing her bottom lip with his tongue. She touched him with her own, opened her mouth, and he plunged inside. He didn’t expect her to drop to her knees on the floor, but that’s exactly what she did. Running her hands up his chest, and circling them around his neck. He released a moan as he felt her body press against his.

Tamsin not being in his life was unacceptable. Mason had no idea why he had these thoughts or feelings. He’d never been possessive of anyone or anything. Not his toys, not the women in his past, nothing. Not even cars, and yet, when it came to Tamsin, he didn’t want to let her go. She belonged to him, and it felt important to not let her go.

Mason kept his fingers in her hair and with his other hand, he felt for the back zipper of her dress. Slowly, he began to peel it down her back, feeling the dress give way. Tamsin broke the kiss to exhale a moan, and the sound went straight to his cock. She pulled away from him, just enough for him to peel the last of the dress off her shoulder.
