There was a problem. Paul had a lot of allies. Men and women who liked him, and were willing to do whatever it took. Paul must have known what Mason had planned, as Paul had told him exactly what would take place if anything was to unexpectedly happen to Paul. Mason’s brothers would be killed, along with Tamsin. Then, Mason would lose everything.

His father had the power to completely destroy everything Mason wanted. So, instead of killing his father, he had taken a step back and swore his loyalty to him.

Paul Savonas had promised to keep his hands from Tamsin, providing she bore an heir—a male heir.

Mason had hoped as the two years slowly passed, his father would grow bored. Tamsin was aging, and even though she was close to nineteen years old, his father’s interest in her hadn’t diminished.

He watched as Tamsin sat down on the grass. David, his gardener, had told him that Tamsin loved to spend time with him, tending to the gardens. At first, Mason had been tempted to take it all away. No wife of his would garden or do menial work, but then he realized he had already taken so much from Tamsin.

After he had gotten Tamsin to agree to his little plan, he’d married her, protected her, and then gone out of his way to find out what she’d been like away from the Denton family. Tanya Davis had been a beloved young woman in the town. She was free, finishing up school, just being herself. He’d stolen that from her, and he knew, deep down, she hated him for it.

Tamsin had withdrawn over the last two years. She had nothing to do with her family. He figured she had gotten calls from Landon, but she never told him anything. He hadn’t gone hunting for Landon but knew he’d find a way to locate her brother.

Mason had stayed true to his word, and Tamsin had stayed true to hers. She stayed out of his way. Whenever they were forced together as a married couple, she linked her arm with his, smiled up at him, played the role to perfection, but he knew it was all an act. The moment they were in private, she would pull away and the smile would fade.

He’d not seen a real smile on her face in so long—until the moment he saw her walking across the street, seemingly carefree.

“Have you forgotten we’re here, or are you planning to drool over your wife some more?” Connor asked.

“You can always wait. You’re only here to give me a brief update on what our father is doing.”

He had no interest in looking away from Tamsin. Nearly nineteen years old, and she looked even more beautiful than ever. Her black hair seemed darker, glossier. Since they had been married, she had not cut it. Most of the time when he saw her, her hair was down, especially when she didn’t know he was watching. Every other time in his company, her hair was pulled up in either a ponytail or bun, the same when they were out at functions.

The hair was always pulled back, always held firm and in place. He had to wonder if she was trying to send a message to everyone else, that she was as trapped as her hair. It was insane.

“We know you care about your wife, but don’t you think you should be focusing on us?” Reese, his other brother, asked.

Mason had no interest in turning away from the window and his beautiful wife. Rarely did he get a chance to see her like this, carefree. He didn’t know if she was rebelling on purpose or trying to send a message to him that she no longer gave a fuck if he was home or not.

For two years, she had played her part well. Even the night after, she had given the illusion that he’d bedded her.

It was never going to happen.

“Why? You’re only going to tell me the same thing. Our father’s power is growing, and now that he’s connected to the Dentons, he uses every play imaginable to gain what he wishes. There is no limit to what he wants.” Mason released a breath.

His father had him completely tied. Mason knew that, and he hated the bastard for it. Killing him right now was out of the question, but all he wanted to do was murder the son of a bitch. It would give him great pleasure to do so.

The evil fucker was always hinting at Mason putting a child in Tamsin. The last few months had gotten increasingly worse, which was why Mason had opted to spend a lot more time at home, protecting her. He wouldn’t put it past his father to come to the house and rape Tamsin.

Mason hated to even bring himself to think like that, because it was so fucking wrong on every level. He promised Tamsin she would be safe.
