“Why’d she need me to come back for her?”

Yeah, he was trying to hide it, but the hurt and regret was apparent.

To anyone outside the club, Sig could seem like a highly disturbed, very volatile man. His Fury family knew the truth. They knew it because of how he was with Red.

His feelings for his ol’ lady were intense and hard to ignore.

Not one of his Fury brothers wanted to be in Sig’s shoes—or his head—but they wanted the same love the man had for his soulmate. They all considered themselves lucky as fuck when they found something even remotely close.

Dodge hoped to find the same if he ever decided to settle down. He’d never say never because he’d witnessed his brothers fall for their women one at a time like dominoes. None of them had been looking for an ol’ lady.

Trip was the exception. However, Dodge was still behind bars when the prez found his queen and he didn’t witness the tumultuous shit the couple went through before their jagged edges smoothed out and their pieces finally fit together perfectly. He’d only heard about it.

“Sorry, brother, got no fuckin’ clue why she needed you other than you bein’ her blood. Didn’t get her whole life story since we had limited time together. Doubt that she would’ve told me anyway since most of that time, her mouth was only open when she was singin’ on stage. Let’s just say she ain’t no social butterfly. And she certainly wasn’t spillin’ secrets.” Just like you, brother.

“But you’re wearin’ her scratches, ain’t you?” Sig asked, his tone turning sharp. Even dangerous. “She did that to you, didn’t she? You said I should know you well enough. Brother, I do. Know you don’t have deep convos with the chicks you normally bang. Also know you don’t have deep conversations with chicks you don’t bang. You had to have one with her long enough to find out what her brother’s name was.”

“Was helpin’ the band out. They’re down and out.”

“Or were you helpin’ out yourself?”

Dodge pulled in a breath. “Low blow, Sig.”

“Callin’ it as I see it. Now, gonna ask you and I expect the fuckin’ truth. You bang my sister?”

Fuck. The truth was, Dodge knew it would come out sooner or later. Especially if Syn ever rolled back into Manning Grove. “When’s the last time you did anythin’ for her? Besides smugglin’ her out of your trailer and givin’ her to another family, what the fuck have you done for her?” Dodge lifted a palm. “Oh, wait, you bought her a cell phone, then stopped callin’ and textin’.”

Sig scowled. “She told you that?”

“Yeah.”

“That before or after she gave you those fuckin’ scratches?”

“You can ask her that, along with why she needed you.”

“Can’t ask her if I don’t have a way to fuckin’ contact her, asshole.”

“And if we hadn’t gotten to the point of us actually talkin’, you never would’ve known where the fuck she was, asshole. Maybe you should thank me for these goddamn scratches. Now you know your fuckin’ sister’s alive, at least. Not to mention, interested in findin’ you, her asshole of a brother. Maybe it would be better for her if she didn’t fuckin’ know where you were.”

“Christ!” Trip shouted. “Enough. You’re both in the fuckin’ wrong here. The difference is, Sig, you knew you had a sister and kept it from us, while Dodge had… a… discussion with her that involved… scratchin’ some itches.” He grimaced as he rubbed a hand down his beard. “Sure it wouldn’t have gotten that far if he’d known Syn was your sister.”

“Think he would’ve kicked her out of his bed as soon as he knew?” Sig asked, each word like bubbling lava. “As soon as she said my name, did you tell her where I was?”

“No, ‘cause I wanted to run it by you first. My brothers are priority over some—“ He blew out a breath, glad he stopped himself before he slipped. “Woman. And I didn’t want to assume you were her brother. Figured it was smarter to talk to you first. Now I’m fuckin’ regrettin’ it. Just the same as you are for never callin’ her or textin’ her.” This time he managed to leave the “asshole” off. Barely.

“My fuckin’ phone got lost durin’ one of times I went inside. Never saw it again. Didn’t have that number memorized. Or any fuckin’ number. When I got out, I went to the address of the family who had taken her in. They were gone. She was no longer in the same school. Figured at the time, it was for the best ‘cause I was fuckin’ wired out on drugs and drinkin’ so much I was blacked out more than I was conscious. So, now you fuckin’ know why I lost track of her. So fuck you,” he snarled. “Shouldn’t have to explain this to anyone but her. Now I might not even get that fuckin’ chance, you motherfuckin’ asshole.”
