I am in on their ruse.
And me being here … I don’t know if it’s because of my own needs … or because Heath told me to infiltrate her life.
“I just …” She sighs. “I can’t catch feelings for anyone at Spine Ridge U. It’s not an option.”
My heart flutters.
Feelings? She has feelings for me?
“I think it’s best if you leave,” she says, turning away.
Sadness overcomes me, because this … this is not at all what I’d wanted when I first laid eyes on her. I’m torn between my adoration for her, and my admiration for the person I’ve known all my life.
How am I supposed to choose?
“And don’t tell Heath and Silas about me seeing them kill that man,” she says.
I shake my head. “I won’t.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”
Ivy
I close my eyes and rub them. I shouldn’t have done this. I don’t know why, but I got carried away in the moment. I let my horniness for a man so desperate to please me take control over my actions.
Fuck.
I walk off, but he grabs my hand. “Wait.” The way he looks at me is just so … unsettling to me. Like he would worship the ground I walk on. But nothing I’ve done warrants that kind of devotion. And definitely not from the guy who's friends with those demons.
“I want you to know I don’t give up easily,” he says.
I snort and shake my head.
Fuck. Why’d he have to go and say something so sweet?
I head to the kitchen to grab some water. “You should.”
I don’t know what it is that I’m feeling right now or why I’m so conflicted.
Am I really starting to feel something for this guy?
He gets up off the couch and puts his hoodie back on. “Not when it comes to you.”
My soul feels struck by lightning, and I gape at him as he comes up to me. He places the key to my apartment on the kitchen counter. “A promise is a promise.”
I don’t know what to say.
I thought he came here out of his own selfish needs, that all he wanted was sex as a reward, just like the other two. But maybe … maybe there’s something more between us than either of us are willing to admit.
He opens the front door but pauses halfway through. “I won’t stop watching you.”
And as he closes the door, my heart beats wildly out of control.
Heath
My face darkens as I lean against the wall on the fire escape.
Ivy fucking Clark. So it was you who got away tonight.
My hand balls into a fist.
And Max is willing to lie to me … for this thief’s pussy?
I’m so fucking mad I could beat a hole into this wall, but I stop myself before I do. This is on him. I told him to make her fall for him, and he apparently succeeded, but he wasn’t supposed to hop over to her side. He chose her over us, over me.
Max’s motorcycle zooms off, and I listen to the sound of the engine disappear into the distance. I almost, almost wanted to go after him. But his time will definitely come. First, I want to see what this thief has been up to.
Finally, I know where she lives.
I peek inside the window again. She’s flopped down on the couch, looking exhausted from their fuck session. I keep my eyes solidly on her as she falls asleep right there and then, legs splayed across the couch like she couldn’t be bothered to get up.
My nostrils flare.
That’s gotta be some excellent fucking pussy, then, if it was worth betraying me for.
My eyes glide over her body, those perky tits and taut nipples, and those panties that are still wet. My tongue dips out to wet my lips.
Maybe I should go and find out exactly why he found it so fucking easy.
I shove the knife between the crevice of the window and hook my fingers underneath, then crack it open. I slowly climb in foot after foot and grab my knife. I’m surprised she didn’t lock the window. Or maybe she just forgot because of Max.
With my knife clutched firmly, I look around the apartment. So, this is where our infamous thief lives. She wasn’t kidding; she is poor as fuck. There’s barely any furniture, and it’s all run down like hell.
There’s a room to my left, but the door is locked. I could break in, but then I’d wake her up, and a fight would definitely ensue. I’m far more interested in her now that she’s asleep. I can hear her breathing all the way from across the room. There’s just something so … attractive about a Sleeping Beauty. Like she’s simply there waiting for me to touch her.
My knife is aimed at her heart, and I freeze when she groans and her legs move. She’s still fast asleep despite the danger currently invading her house.
