What the fuck had happened to him?
“That would be good.” Austin’s expression seemed to say it should’ve been obvious but he didn’t say it out loud. “He also doesn’t relax well in groups. He’s not agoraphobic and he can handle grocery stores and things like that, but doing a scene downstairs as a grown-up sub would never be something he’d enjoy even if he could physically do it.”
So he’d try to torture himself for me if I pushed it but he’d hate it or have a mental breakdown?
“I think that is a very reasonable boundary and I will never ask him to scene downstairs. I like hanging out with the other couples, though. I don’t have a lot of people in my everyday life who I can be open with.” I wasn’t sure I could give up the conversation aspect, no matter how drawn I was to Charlie.
“Would strictly socializing downstairs be fine or is that something we need to discuss in more detail?” Was I asking too much?
Austin wasn’t glaring at me anymore, so I thought it was probably reasonable, but I didn’t start to relax until Charlie inched up and whispered to his protector.
I couldn’t hear much but Austin nodded and seemed pleased with whatever Charlie had said. “He’s fine with getting to know other people as long as he’s fully dressed and you’ve talked it out clearly beforehand. He doesn’t have an issue with watching a scene or what anyone else is wearing, though.”
Well, considering what Austin was wearing, that really didn’t surprise me.
“So what I’m hearing is that as long as Charlie is not expected to submit downstairs, he’d be fine with getting to know more people.” What else? What else? “He’s just not comfortable wearing some of the more abbreviated outfits other people wear, and I should make sure he’s aware of his surroundings and when people are coming up to us?”
Austin’s regal nod had more stress easing out of me. We hadn’t fixed anything but at least I knew what I’d done wrong and we were making plans for the future. That seemed like a step in the right direction.
“Yes.” Stroking Charlie’s back, Austin glanced down at him again, this time frowning and clearly deep in thought. “Charlie has very clear lines when it comes to what’s private and what’s public…even club kind of public.”
I wasn’t sure what Austin meant, so I was glad when he continued to explain and didn’t make me guess or read between the lines. “He’ll never look like the naughtiest sub when you’re around other couples or even something like watching a scene downstairs, but he is not a prude or vanilla. He just needs to be comfortable in his surroundings before he opens up.”
Were we at the point where I could ask questions or would it make Charlie uncomfortable?

“Can I ask some questions about that to clarify a few things or should I wait for that?” Should I explain what I was thinking first? “I don’t need to do scenes in public to be happy in a relationship or in my sex life, and I really hope he’s not vanilla because if he was, I’ve been researching the age play thing all wrong.”
That actually got a giggle from Charlie as Austin rolled his eyes. “Yes, I’m the spokesperson here, so ask away.”

“Thank you.” Drama queen. “What kinds of kinks or interests does Charlie have? What’s he comfortable with? I don’t need an exhaustive list, but I need a better idea of what we might have in common. “Very logical.” Austin cocked his head and studied me. “This goes no further than the three of us unless Charlie chooses to tell someone else, of course, but he’s into larger alphas and leans toward body worship. Before I could even open my mouth, he straightened. “Oh, almost forgot. No alcohol for Charlie unless nakedness can quickly follow and you’re ready to have your hands full. He doesn’t even get a glass of wine at dinner.”
Austin mumbled something about only needing once to learn that lesson, but Charlie’s giggle said there wasn’t anything he was upset about.
“I will need him to tell me specifically when he’s comfortable for that situation to be allowed to happen. I’ve never done a scene with a sub who’s intoxicated and I’ve never slept with anyone who’s drunk. I’m not opposed to it, but I want to lay out clear boundaries so no one has any regrets.” Was I sounding like the prude now?
