Monroe moaned around my cock, arching his back so he could work a hand under his torso. That was usually my trick, not his, and I groaned at how damn into this he was tonight.

“Fuck yes. Show me. Wanna see you stroke yourself.”

“Sucking you gets me so hot.” He wiggled around, positioning himself more perpendicular to my body so I had a good view of his hand working his cock.

“Yeah. Like that. Fuck. I’m close.”

“Good. Come for me.” He growled and sank back down on my cock, letting me direct him, moaning louder as my hand tightened and my motions became more frantic. I lost control over my hips, thrusting into his tight, warm, willing mouth.

“There. There. There,” I chanted, then gave it all up to him with a single long groan. I trusted him. I’d trusted him long before that moment, but I trusted him on a deeper level, trusted that it was okay to want and need. I wasn’t too much for him, wasn’t ever going to be too much for him, and he gladly welcomed all I wanted to give him.

“Monroe.” I managed to put a whole novel’s worth of meaning into his name. I came and came, so much that it dribbled back out of Monroe’s full lips and onto his sharp jaw. He gazed up at me with glassy eyes. My gorgeous lieutenant, come-drunk and all messed up. The sight was enough to coax one final spurt out of my cock before he released me.

“Damn. So beautiful.” He groaned like he wasn’t the sexiest thing I’d ever seen himself. Pulling back slightly, he stroked himself hard and fast. “Gonna get me off too.”

“Do it. Come on me.” I pointed at my nipples which were still pink from his earlier attentions.

“Oh, I love that idea.” He pushed onto his knees, jacking his cock right over my torso.

“Love you.” I grinned at him, knowing how much he got off on those words. “I love you, and I want you to come all over me.”

“Yes.” His voice broke, and he painted my chest with creamy white ropes all over both nipples. Panting hard, he laughed as I reached down and smeared the come into a heart shape, right over my actual heart. “Leave it to you to make a beautiful mess.”

“You love it,” I said smugly.

“Love you. So much.” His voice was slightly hoarse, which oddly turned me on, knowing he’d loved me that well, loved me using his mouth, loved me taking over.

He hopped from the bed long enough to retrieve a warm washcloth, washing more than the come off my skin, taking time to wipe me down all over. I stretched languidly under the cooling breeze of the ceiling fan I’d installed in the room.

“You take such good care of me.”

“We take care of each other.” His expression was so tender that I had to pull him close for a kiss. And, of course, Wallace chose exactly that moment to burst through the cracked bedroom door, sending it smacking into the frame.

“Cat, we were having a moment!” I complained as he planted his feline ass right between us and started grooming himself.

“Hey, he’s part of the family.” Chuckling, Monroe stretched out, facing me on his side, reaching around Wallace to stroke my damp belly.

“He is.” My throat felt fuzzier than Wallace’s furry belly. “We’re a family.”

And we were. I might be home to Monroe, but he was family to me, a place all my own to belong and be loved. A place to grow and plant roots. A place to return to, over and over, with my person at its heart. My person. More than a boyfriend. More than a partner even. Way more than roommates. We were family.

Chapter Thirty-Six

Monroe

I had been many things. Cadet. Ensign. Lieutenant. Investigator. I’d been a son and friend as well. But until that summer in Safe Harbor, I’d never been a partner. Knox liked to call me his person because the word boyfriend didn’t seem to fit, and I’d never been happier to be human in my life. And at Frank and Leon's Labor Day retirement party, I’d never been prouder either, watching Knox work the large meeting room at the Safe Harbor Community center.

Knox shook hands, passed out slices of sheet cake, and directed people to sign the giant toolbox-shaped retirement card for Frank and Leon. A table at the front of the room featured photos of them over the years, alongside notable Measure Twice remodels and many charitable and community contributions. Leon stood proudly by the front table, greeting guests and accepting hugs.

“All this fuss.” Leaving the front table, Frank lumbered over to where I stood at the rear of the large open room, back by the dusty trophy case filled with youth rec league winners over the years. I spied at least one picture of a younger Holden and Worth among other town residents I recognized. “We’re retiring, not dead.”
