“Ok,” I nod. “Anything else?”
“Um,” he says. “Start with anything valuable. Your mom would have a lot of designer clothes. We’re hoping that whoever was in here was just after something quick and easy to steal to make a bit of cash. Anything deeper than that couldn’t be good,” he adds before taking off down the hallways towards dad’s office.
“Come on,” Nate says once his dad is gone. “If it was Josh, then maybe look out for little cameras too.
I nod as Nate and Jesse lead me up the stairs. We hit my room first and have a good look around. Jesse goes through my closet, looking high and low as Nate does a thorough check of the bathroom. I look through my room and ten minutes later, I’m confident that nothing is missing.
We search through every other room in the house in the same way and by the time we make our way back downstairs, the sun is peeking through the windows and my lower tummy is starting to scream at me, telling me I’ve been doing way too much, not that I’ll be telling any of these guys. I just need to get back to Nate’s place and swallow of few painkillers and maybe catch up on a few hours’ sleep.
We find Caden double checking the living area when we get downstairs. “Find anything?” Nate asks.
Caden straightens out as we approach. “No,” he says with a cringe as he looks to me. “I’m sorry, Tora, but while the security system was on, all the surveillance cameras were switched off.”
“Shit,” I curse. “Are you sure? I could have sworn I turned them on. I always make sure they’re on.”
He walks forward and squeezes my shoulder. “Sorry, love. They were definitely off,” he says. “We’ll have to find another way to catch the bastard. Was anything missing upstairs?”
“No,” I sigh, wishing there were something that could give me even a hint as to who this person was.
“We’ll get the guy,” Nate murmurs, trying to keep my spirits up.
“Why don’t you check through your father’s papers,” Jesse suggests. “Maybe it’s got something to do with his business.”
“I don’t know,” I say with a shrug. “Even if it does, I wouldn’t know what I was looking at or be able to tell if something was missing from it.”
“That’s alright,” Caden says. “Your parents will be home in a few days, they can look through it all. Why don’t we get you home? I can call Mick from the car.”
I nod my head as I lean back against Nate. “Alright,” I say through a killer yawn.
“Careful,” Jesse grins. “Every time you yawn without covering your mouth, a ghost sticks his dick in it.”
“Ugh, Jess,” I groan. “That’s disgusting.”
He shrugs his shoulders, not caring one little bit before leading the way back outside. I hurry around the house before double and triple checking that the surveillance cameras are turned on, before setting the alarm.
We head out to the car and pile in. Nate sits in the backseat with me and we’re barely even making our way back through the front gate when I start falling asleep on his big shoulder.
We pull up at their place ten minutes later and meet Trish at the front door. Caden rattles off the story and all the ins and outs of what happened while Nate scoops me up into his arms and starts making his way up the stairs. “Are you ok?” he questions.
I nod my head. “Little sore,” I admit.
A scowl sits heavy on his face and I don’t doubt that he’s trying his hardest not to tell me ‘I told you so’. He pushes through the door of my room and sets me down on the bed before rummaging through my drawer to find the painkillers. He gets two out for me and hands them to me with a bottle of water. “Thanks,” I say.
“We’re going to find this guy,” he promises me.
“I know,” I tell him, not doubting him for one second.
“You know I love you right, and the second this fucker decided to mess with you, he decided to mess with me too,” Nate says as he drops down in the bed beside me.
I curl into his side and close my eyes once again. “I wouldn’t want to be that person right about now.”
“Wise,” he tells me. “Now go back to sleep. I want you to get better so I can really show you how much I love you.”
“You mean; you want me to get better so you can show me what it’s like to have a man screw me to within an inch of my life?”
His whole body shakes with silent laughter. “Fuck yeah,” he says. “I want to bend you over the hood of my car.”
“I should be disgusted with your crass nature,” I murmur. “But I can’t fucking wait.”
