I trail off when I realize what I’ve said, talking frantically, as though my words have run away from my reason.
Surely he didn’t want a whole freaking business pitch.
“Go on,” he urges, voice commanding, gruff, the sort of voice I can imagine him using with me in the bedroom.
“It’s just…”
I trail off again, wondering why he cares, defensive instincts rising inside of me when I think about how I’ve never shared this with anyone before.
The sad truth is I’ve never been good at making friends with people…
Animals are so much easier.
“Just what?” he growls, and then he’s pushed up against me again, just like he did outside Lucky’s room, just like he did on the gravel path.
I stare up at him, my breath catching, wondering if I can keep telling myself this is a mistake.
How the heck could he accidentally be pushing himself up against me like this?
I can’t believe this is a mistake, not when his rock hard body is pushed against mine, not when I can feel something solid and huge pushing into my belly.
“I’ve never had a home,” I murmur, gazing up into his compelling his face, his take-note eyes. “I know what it’s like to be unwanted, ignored, and maybe it makes me a little messed up that I want to save animals instead of people. But I’ve always loved dogs, ever since I was a little girl. I want to give them a life if I can… the life I never had a chance at.”
“I don’t think that makes you messed up at all,” he says, bringing his face close to mine.
I let out a whimper. “What are you doing?”
The corner of his lips twitch. “Do you want me to stop?”
My heartbeat thunders through me, setting every part of me alight, my sex tingling with his nearness.
“No,” I admit, my voice shaky. “I just—”
“Get out of your head, Dreamer,” he whispers gruffly.
I can’t believe this is happening, but I don’t have long to question it before his lips are pressed against mine. I gasp or try to gasp with our mouths fused together. He makes a groaning sound and opens his mouth, and I open mine without thinking, something primal and buried deep within me pulsing as our tongues find each other, clashing hungrily.
He growls and grabs my hips, pulling me somehow closer to him, forcefully mashing our bodies together so I can’t mistake the impressive length pushed against my belly.
I grab onto his solid arms, moaning as tingles buzz around my mouth, spreading over my face and down my body, pounding in my chest like a song of pure lust.
He breaks it off, holding his face close to mine, his breath whispering over me.
“You want it,” he growls, with a note of surprise in his voice.
I giggle even as nerves dance through me, telling me this is a trick, telling me I need to be careful.
“Well, yeah,” I murmur as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
And it is.
I’ve wanted him since I first laid eyes on him, drinking in his silver-streaked hair and his consuming eyes.
“Good.” He laughs gruffly. “Because I was starting to think I was going crazy there for a minute. Fuck, you feel so damn good.”
His hands slide from my hips and massage my ass cheeks as he claims my lips again, his touch making deep impressions on my ass. He palms my ass like he’s been waiting his whole life to feel my body like he’s a starving man and I’m his long-awaited meal.
Then something starts to vibrate against my belly.
Is it his manhood?
Oh, God, is he going to finish right now, exploding against me as we sink deeper into the kiss?
But then he steps back, a grim look coming over his face.
“Fucking cell phone,” he snarls.
“Oh.” I giggle, shaking my head, feeling drunk from the kiss. “I thought… Never mind.”
Is this really happening?
I feel like the world is spinning somehow, like any second I could be thrown off its surface and go soaring into the sky.
“I’ll tell them to handle whatever it is themselves, and then we’ll…” A brooding look flickers in his eyes. “Continue where we left off, my horny Dreamer.”
“Hmm,” I murmur, the only thing I’m capable of saying when my shocked heartbeat is making my throat tight, my body a riot of impulses.
I scan the pond-slash-lake, looking for Lucky, finding him on the far side with his nose buried in the ground and his tail wagging. It’s like he’s purposefully ignoring us so we can sink into our lust.
Dom answers his phone. “Yes?”
I squeeze my sweaty hands together, gazing up at him with disbelief pounding through me, the taste of him lingering on my lips.
I can still feel their roughness against me like a ghostly pressure, tempting me to leap at him and kiss him again, harder this time, more urgently, even if I know I won’t be able to give him what he ultimately wants.
