He’d purchased a variety of meat, and had even gone so far as to warn her she was not going to need a single salad or vegetable. She wondered if he was debating his choices right about now.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
In response, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and kissed her temple. “Absolutely nothing, but I knew if I looked like I was struggling, you’d come and help me, and I would get to steal my kiss.”
He took possession of her lips, and the moment he touched her, she felt her body come to life.
They’d been married ten blissful years. For the first two years of their marriage, she had continued to work for him, however, like her own mother, she found her calling in being a wife and mother.
She finished work on the seventh month of her first pregnancy with Gabriel Junior. They had five children after Gabriel, who was now nearing eight years old. They had Rachel, who was reading at the table, between Trudy and Nancy. Keane followed, who was all into sports, Melanie and Marsha were their surprise twins, and they were expecting their sixth child.
As Gabriel had said to her, his grandfather was finally going to get his wish, and their country home was filled with family.
Lawson and Esther were their grandparents.
As for Gabriel’s father, he went to prison. Along with holding a gun to her head, and attempted blackmail, he had exploitation, extortion, fraud, and a great deal of tax evasion charges to answer to. Even Gabriel’s mother had to pay for her years of involvement.
He refused to provide them a lawyer. He would not give a character witness, and much to their surprise, his own grandfather had prepared for that day. Regarding the potential arrest of his son, he had written a great deal about his son’s character, describing him as being spoiled, lazy, a liar, and a cheat.
Both had long jail terms and were not likely to ever be released. They hurt a lot of people.
As for Gabriel, he had decided to come to his grandfather’s rescue. The company had no hope, but with Gabriel and Lawson, they had found some light. It was going to take time to turn it into the empire it once was, but she had no doubt her man could do it.
Gabriel often told her she was the right woman for him. Well, he was the right man for her.
She didn’t love him for his money or his position, or anything else. She loved the man, because he was everything to her.
