“Sadly, nothing so far,” Rachel says with a sigh. “She was able to follow him for a few blocks, but he parked his car down a side alley.”

“Shit,” I mutter.

“She checked the back entrances for the businesses there. One had a security camera, but it wasn’t working.”

Double shit.

“And get this,” Rachel continues. “She hacked the camera on the other side of the block that would point toward the other end of the one-way alley where he’d parked.”

“But it was broken, too,” I hazard a guess.

“Actually, no… it was working. But it was turned off for a very defined period of time. From about half an hour before the guy pulled his car into the alley until about an hour after he left.”

“So for an hour and a half, the camera facing the alley where the stalker parked was turned off,” I repeat thoughtfully. “Coincidence?”

“I doubt it,” she replies. I don’t believe in coincidence either, so I concur.

“We have a guy who is sophisticated enough to cover any tracks that could lead to his identification.”

“With special emphasis in hacking,” Rachel adds. “He’s got to have skills to breach the city’s database. Bebe’s not giving up, though. She’s actually going to broaden the search. She’s going to access footage of nearby cameras and the vehicles that go by.”

“That’s pretty labor intensive,” I remark.

“We’ve got nothing better to do,” Rachel replies with a knowing chuckle. “And before I forget… everything is set for Bebe next week.”

“She have any clue?” I ask.

“None,” Rachel assures me. “It will be epic.”

“Yes, it will. Now, I’ve got better things to do than chitchat with you, so if you don’t mind—”

“Later, boss,” Rachel chirps before hanging up the phone.

Tossing mine over my shoulder, I give Joslyn a lascivious smile. “Now,” I drawl as I bring my hand to her belly and start to slide it downward. “I passionately believe you should start every day with a mind-blowing orgasm. But since you were a good girl last night, I’ll give you two.”

Joslyn’s hand latches onto my wrist just before my fingers reach her promised land and halt my progress. With her eyebrows drawn inward and her tone clipped, she asks, “What were you talking about when you asked Rachel if Bebe has any clue? Any clue about what?”

Christ, she’s adorable, coming to Bebe’s defense without even really knowing if she’s in trouble. All Joslyn heard was Rachel and I are hiding something, and now she’s ready to go all hell-cat on us. More importantly, she means to deny my fingers entrance to her slick heat.

“Relax, kitten, and sheath those claws,” I tease her in a gruff voice. I easily break her hold, then slide a long finger inside of her. Her hips shoot upward, and she groans. “I just arranged for Bebe’s mom and son to fly to Vegas to surprise her.”

Joslyn’s hand slaps onto my wrist, holding me tight in place. I could move if I wanted to, but by the expression on her face, I’m powerless to do anything but stare.

She’s giving me a look of such utter respect and tenderness, it makes my chest feel like it’s on fire while, oddly, making my dick harder than ever. I realize… I want to see that look from her every day, wondering what I’d have to give a woman like her just for a single momentary glimpse of it.

Joslyn lays her palm on my cheek. Her thumb grazes it gently. “You are an incredible man, Kynan.”

It’s more than I need to hear, and I’m not ready to confront the emotions her praise pulls forth. So I pull my finger out, add another, and start to pump. Joslyn’s eyes glaze over, expression morphing into a woman lost to the pleasure I can give her.

And that’s enough for right now.

CHAPTER 20

Joslyn

“What else do you want?” I ask Kynan as I lean over the island counter. I had just scribbled down “Cherry Garcia ice cream” on my shopping list.

Kynan stares at his laptop on the opposite side. He’s perched there, looking incredibly yummy in just a tank top and workout shorts. We plan on hitting the gym first, then we’re going grocery shopping.

Sort of like a couple, but not. He’s my bodyguard. But like a couple because he’s been very vocal about what items he wants.

“Add some Smithwick’s, will you, love?” he asks, and I grin as I write down his request.

It’s weird how we’ve settled into this oddly natural routine with each other the past three days since we… became intimate again.

And intimate is exactly the word I’d use to describe the nature of our relationship now. Because what he did to me in that closet was equal parts lewd, erotic, and debasing. It was the most intimate connection I’ve ever had with another human being in my entire life.

When he was behind me—in me—and we stared at each other in the mirror, not once breaking that connection until it was over, I realized Kynan is the only man I could hope to have that with. Our bond was forged twelve years ago, and I had once thought it was broken.
