“Oh my God, Conrad. I was so scared. I’m fine. Are you okay?”

“Better, now that I’m with my girls. This little beauty needs a name,” he says looking up at me.

“Miracle,” I say suddenly thinking that she’s nothing short of a miracle. If

my appendix had ruptured at a different time she may not be here at all right now and that’s a scary thought.

“Miracle,” he repeats. “I love it. It’s perfect.” He kisses me softly on the hand

and I feel safe again. Whole.

“Knock, knock,” Gunner says as he pokes his head in the door. He doesn’t look good at all.

“Is Sloane okay?” I demand before he can say anything else.

“Oh yes. She’s fine. She’s upstairs with Laney and Sabatino,” he says.

“Why? What’s wrong with Laney?” I blurt, never once thinking it was Hawk in trouble.

“She had the babies early.”

“Early. Jesus, she’s only twenty-eight weeks. Is she okay?” Is there a full fucking moon or something? What’s going on in Heart Falls today?

“She’s fine. No complications. The girls are in the NICU for now.”

“I’m sure she’s freaking out.” She’s wanted to be a mother since middle school practically. I begin to pray for my friend and her family. I don’t think I can take another thing today. It’s too much, but it does put things into perspective.

“How are you guys doing?” Gunner asks.

“We’re good. Miracle is right as rain. I think Con is sleeping again,” I tell him, worrying my bottom lip with my teeth.

“I’ll send Sloane down in a bit.”

“Thank you,” I reply.

“Mayor, Mrs. Felton,” Gunner says.

“Chief,” James says, and Gunner leaves.

Today has been traumatic as fuck but I can finally take a breath. My family is safe but my

friend's pain is just beginning.

It takes a few days, but all three of us are discharged and sent home to begin the rest of our lives and it can’t come soon enough.

Epilogue

Conrad

Five Years Later

Over the last five years, our family has grown by two more children, besides Miracle. Conrad Junior or CJ as we like to call him and Jennifer Jean, JJ, were born a year later and they rule the roost. Our home is messy and chaotic but I’d have it no other way. Sabrina is the best mother and wife in the world and she’s the one that keeps things running smoothly. Due to my busy schedule at work, she handles everything at home. Whenever I try to help her, it seems to make things more chaotic so I stick to outside chores. She also runs an Etsy shop where she sells hair bows, wreaths, and vision boards that she’s made. If it’s made with ribbons, she can do it. Some months, she makes more than I do at it.

“Hey stranger, you going my way?” Sabrina asks as she sits down beside me on the very barstool where we first met five years ago. When I got here, I ordered her a strawberry margarita and myself a beer. She takes a sip of her drink and I know her kisses will taste like strawberries and sin now.

“I’m always going your way, sugar,” I murmur after leaning over and kissing her next. Unlike five years ago, it’s not raining out and she’s wearing a short navy-blue dress held up by tiny straps. Her gorgeous tits are on display, but the old men here don’t show any interest. I run my hand up her thigh a little higher, reaching under her skirt.

“Conrad, please,” she says, placing her hand on mine.

“Please, what?” I question, my voice gruff. I am on edge here. She’s still the most beautiful woman in the world and I love her more than life itself. Between her and the kids, I am beyond blessed.

“Let’s get out of here. The kids are with our parents until tomorrow. Let’s enjoy the night.” Over the last five years, Heart Falls has grown in population and businesses. There are things to do now without having to go to Billings.

“Where to, sugar?” I ask. I watch her lick her lips. She knows what that does to me. Then she leans in and puts her now wet lips on my neck.

“You decide, Con. I just think you ought to know that I am not wearing any panties.”

“You’re not?” I ask, chuckling.

“Nope,” she says before taking a drink of margarita.

“Why not?” I ask, playing along.

“I just forgot.” She puts her hand on my thigh and gasps when she feels my stiff dick.

“We gotta get out of here,” I tell her, pulling my wallet out. I drop a twenty on the counter. The bartender, Marco, is a new kid in town.

“Have a good night, Captain,” Marco says.

“You too,” I say, taking my wife’s hand and leading her out to my truck.

“I drove here,” she says as I lift her up and put her in the passenger seat.
