Wolf bared his teeth at me.

“You just do that.”

“I fucking will do that; just try and stop me.”

Three hours later, I arrived at my project house to start work.

The moment I saw July across the street, though, I changed course and headed over there.

I was ready to talk to her.

I needed to know her answer.

I needed her.

She didn’t answer my knock, though, which was why I walked around the side of the house to the back gate.

It was a six-foot tall, wooden fence with significant rot in several places. It looked more like fuckin’ firewood than a fence, honestly.

After finagling it open, I walked around the house to the back porch and froze when I heard July talking.

“It’s my greatest fantasy,” July said. “I don’t know why.”

“Explain it better to me,” Des said. “I think I’ll try it out with Able and tell you whether it’s worth it to find a man to do it or not.”

July giggled as the words left Des’ lips, and I moved closer, inching carefully so the dry leaves crackling underneath my feet wouldn’t give me away.

Leaning my forearm up against the brick of the house, my mouth hung open in shock as July laid out her fantasy, in great detail until my mind was reeling with possibilities.

“That sounds hot…” Des admitted. “But who would you ever get to do that with? People would look at you like you’re loony.”

July snorted in understanding.

“You’re right,” she agreed. “It was something I’d always planned on bringing up with Dean, but then that happened, so I obviously didn’t get to go through with it.”

“Ask him again,” Des teased. “It’s clear that he still wants you.”

I heard shuffling and then a hesitant, “He left me. Do you know how hard that was on me? He’s showing interest again, but he ignored me for a year, Des. He just moved right on with his life like we never happened, while I was destroyed. How do I just forgive that?” She paused. “Not to mention Alexa is shoved so far up his ass that I can’t tell where one begins and the other ends. And I think they had sex…it’s just a vibe I get every time I see them together. The look she gives me makes me have this feeling…one that’ll be a hard pill to swallow, even if we were broken up at the time.”

I winced.

Des was quiet for so long that I wasn’t sure she had anything to say.

I certainly did, though.

And would have had I not heard my pager go off from my truck all the way the fuck over here.

Fuck!

Without clearing up her misconceptions, I hurried back the way I came, one thing clear in my mind.

I would clear those misconceptions up, and I’d be the one giving her her ultimate fantasy.

Soon.

Chapter 12

Texas as Fuck

Dean

I hadn’t been able to get the thought of July’s fantasy out of my mind. I had to deliberately force myself to not think about it.

Then, like a knot in my stomach, it started to spread until I came to a conclusion.

I had to follow through with it.

I had to show her we worked.

I had to give her what she needed.

I walked into the room, having entered the same way I did the day I’d found her sick.

Then I walked into the bathroom, surprised at how cute it looked.

She had sticky flowers on her walls, pink towels and pink accents anywhere she could have them.

The shower curtain was clear with large pink daisies on it, and the hooks holding the curtain up were also flowers.

My eyes went from the pink décor to her, and my heart started to race.

She was wet and slippery as soap slid down her back. She rinsed her hair fully, completely unaware that I lay in wait outside.

The normally light brown strands appeared almost black as it straightened out into a silky sheet running directly down her back, stopping right in the center where her bra would usually lay had she had one on.

Which she most certainly did not.

I parted the shower curtain just enough so that I could see everything there was to see of July and watched.

She was quick and methodical.

Her legs. Feet. Armpits. Chest. Belly. Arms.

She did it all without bending over, too.

The wound under her arm was healing nicely, and I’d have to reprimand her later for getting it wet, as well as not having the stitches taken out two days ago when they were supposed to be done.

Then she surprised me when she dropped the soap on the ground.

She bent over, and my breathing picked up.

She had a piercing.

Sweet baby Jesus.

She stood up so quickly that I only got a short glance at it before she was up and replacing the soap, but it was enough to solidify my decision.

Turning off the shower, she reached outside of the curtain and pulled the towel off the rack, wiping first her face before starting in on her hair.
