“No way in fucking hell. That is really not happening.”

“Now who is afraid of her brother finding out she’s fucking a club guy?

“I’m not afraid of him or my father. I’d just rather not see you and Debbie together—ever. I’ve heard enough to know that I never want to see it in person.”

Her answer catches me off guard. “What the fuck?”

She has the nerve to roll her eyes, while looking at me like I’m an idiot. “Women talk, Torin. Did you think your exploits with Debbie wouldn’t make the rounds with the old ladies of the club?”

“I guess I just didn’t know you were around the club that much,” I mutter, scrubbing my face. I’m not ashamed of shit I’ve done, but the last three years have been hard. How do I explain to her that I’ve wanted her, but had no hope of claiming her? It’s not like I have even been up to that much in the last year or so. Fuck …

“Dad’s kept me away from most of the club shit, but I do go to the club for family barbecues and things here and there. I mostly live in Cincy now. It’d be weird if I wasn’t invited. Besides, I like Archie’s old lady.”

“Archie?”

“Anarchy, the club’s Sergeant of Arms.”

“I’ve never heard him called Archie,” I mutter, wondering just how tight she is with the club.

“That’s because he only lets a few people call him that and live. His woman, Trudy, is cool and she gives card readings.”

“Card readings? Do you mean she’s like a fortune teller?”

“Close, but not exactly. Still, it’s interesting. You should get her to read you while you’re there.”

“She can read both of us,” I reply, liking the idea of doing that with her. Fuck, I like the idea of doing everything with her.

“Nope. I’m going back to the dorm.”

“I don’t think so. If you won’t go to the club, we’ll go to a hotel tonight.”

“Torin, I’m not going to a hotel with you. Besides, there’s a huge concert in town at the Heritage Center and all the good hotels have been sold out for ages.”

“Are you too much of a princess to stay in anything less than a five star?”

“Think what you want. It won’t bother me. I’m not going with you. Besides, it’s cool tonight, and this dress is not made for warmth.”

I exhale, pushing my hand roughly through my hair. No other woman on the face of the earth could annoy me like Skylar does. I’m not sure why everything has to be so difficult with her, but it’s clear that things aren’t going to change—at least in that department. I take off my cut and drape it across my bike. She watches me close, but says, nothing. I don’t explain as I open one of my saddle bags. I reach in and pull out one of my shirts that I packed in a hurry. It’s a worn, but extremely soft, black Metallica tee with long sleeves. I turn back around to Skylar as I gather the shirt up in my hands, stretching the collar apart so it doesn’t mess up her hair as it goes on.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she asks as I slide my shirt over her head

“Stop being a bitch and put your hands through the sleeves, Peaches.”

“I don’t remember you being so bossy,” she mutters, shoving her arms through.

“If you didn’t, then you weren’t paying close enough attention, but don’t worry. One day you’ll love it when I order you around. You’ll even beg for it.”

“Now I truly know you’re insane. I’m never going to beg you for shit, Torin. I’m a Kane—the daughter of a Savage Brother Enforcer and sister of the Sergeant of Arms. I don’t beg.”

I smile, and bite back a laugh. First, it’s hard not to laugh when I take in the fact that my shirt drops down to her knees and her hands are hidden inside the sleeves. I start rolling up the fabric, resisting the urge to kiss her fingers … maybe suck on them. When I get one done and start on the other, she tries to pull away.

“I like doing it, Skylar. Let go of that tight control you have, because it’s not going to go anywhere with me. I’m not a boy, I’m a man. It’s my job from here out to take care of you and see to your needs.” She opens her mouth and then shuts it quickly. I feel my eyebrow cock up, daring her to respond. “Speechless?”

“No. I just don’t understand you,” she mutters. “I also don’t like being referred to as a job.”

“You’ll get me in time, Peaches,” I mutter. I leave her other comment alone. My head is still a mess, so I refuse to tell her that when I mentioned the word job, I was thinking more along the lines of her being a lifetime commitment. It’s not time to bombard her. She’ll soon learn. Besides, I need time to tie her to me and sort through my thoughts. I also have to talk to my brothers, too. Bull and Breaker both are going to have shit to say, and I need to be prepared. That Carlos dude isn’t a good fit for Skylar. My woman would be miserable with him and run over that kid. If they gave the bastard the go ahead to date her, then they don’t know her at all. “There that’s better,” I mutter as I finish her other sleeve. Before I can stop myself, I grab ahold of a couple of her fingers. Then, I pull her hand up to my lips, kissing the back of it. Her eyes watch every move I make, and I can feel her quiver against me.
