“Put the ring on, red,” he tells me. I look down at it as we walk out of the courthouse. We just got married.

I finally agreed to marry him, but the ring still hangs around my neck.

It took over a month for me to get here, but here I am. Dressed in a simple black dress and my red heels. I’ve left my hair down because that’s how River loves it.

It’s not your average outfit for a wedding, but we eloped at the courthouse and didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t even tell my brother, and I tell him everything.

I have come to realize I was too reliant on him, but that comes naturally when you grow up and only have one person you can trust. I love him with every fiber of my being, but I love this man in front of me more.

They are different types of loves.

And this one is shaping up to be my favorite.

I also wonder sometimes if my parents had this type of love.

But then I quickly banish the thought.

Looking down at his hand, I see his ring on his finger.

“You are my wife,” he says, and I fight a smirk. “Red, put the fucking ring on, now.” My smile breaks free as he reaches for the engagement ring and my hand, and puts it on my finger himself.

I let him. He is my husband, and I agreed to this.

Even if that ring means more to him than it does to me.

“Everyone you pass will know you’re mine.”

“Will they?” I ask, fighting the smirk on my lips. He steps forward as our driver pulls up, and lifts my chin with the hand that has my ring on his finger. Yes, I did pick it out and made sure it had diamonds in it. At first, I expected him to tell me he wouldn’t wear diamonds, but all he did was kiss me senseless and fuck me till I screamed the night I showed it to him.

To him, my buying the ring signified that I was all in. I’m pretty sure it could’ve been bright pink, and he still would’ve been happy. After all, he’s getting everything he wants, and I guess in some way I am as well, even though I didn’t realize this was what I wanted.

It’s amazing what love can do to change your brain chemistry.

“Do not take it off. My ring will stay on your fucking finger. Even in death. You will be buried with this ring on your finger. Do you understand me?”

I want to laugh, but somehow, I also think it’s very romantic. See, we’re two peas in a pod, and both a little fucked-up in the head—one of us more so than the other—but I think that’s what makes us work so well.

“If you say so, husband.” His eyes go wild at me calling him husband, and before I can say anything else, he has me in his arms with his hands around my waist as he pulls me to him and slams his lips to mine.

He kisses me more passionately than he did when I said “I do,” and trust me, this man knows how to fucking kiss. His hand starts to wander, and our driver coughs behind him. I go to pull back, but he just pulls me back into him. I feel how hard he is as he presses himself against me. Which makes me want to get home to fuck as soon as possible.

“You can say that again tonight, wife, while I have you tied up in the bedroom.” I only nod my head because I love it when he ties me up. Hell, I love it when he does everything to me.

As one of the terms of us getting married, I made him sign a prenup. There was no way I was going to marry him without one.

Do you think I’m stupid? Ha! Hell no.

He may rival me in terms of wealth, but my money is also Alek’s money, and as he’s my only family, I will do everything to protect that.

I also told him I would be keeping my name. He didn’t seem pleased at first, and I’m sure one day he will try to convince me to change it, but he didn’t push.

But now, when I buy guns from my husband, I just have to suck his cock for a discount. It works well in both our favors.

“I’m looking forward to it, husband,” I purr, pulling away so he can’t grab me again, and climb into the car.

My husband.

River Bently.

Once I’m settled in the car, I text Alek. To tell him I’m married.

He doesn’t reply. No, he’s still trying to find that fucking dancer.

I wish I could find her and kill her myself, but at least he’s back home now.
