His hips sped up, moving fast and deep, his mouth dotting kisses on my lips and my neck, down to my collarbone. His green eyes were so intense as they stared down at me that another burst of pleasure shot out of me, triggering his own orgasm. “Fuck, Sasha!” He pumped and pumped even as his jaw clenched and his face twisted in agony. He was beautiful as his pleasure roared out of him and flowed into me, and as he slowed and the delicious weight of him sank into me, I rubbed his back knowing without any doubt in my heart that I was falling for the winger.
Instead of dwelling on that, I enjoyed the heat of his flesh against mine, the feel of his arms wrapped around me as we both drifted off to sleep.
I woke with a start the next morning as the sun filtered through the large windows, looking around to find Alex gone. Great. I gathered my clothes, dressed quickly and went to my room to change before checking on Dixie. She wasn’t in her room and the sight that faced me in the kitchen was too much for my full heart to bear.
Alex was shirtless—again—with Dixie in his arms as he spoon fed her mashed sweet potatoes and chickpeas. “Morning sleeping beauty.”
I felt the blush heat my skin even as I tried to look unaffected. “Morning.”
“Sleep okay?” He pulled his lips in tight as if he was trying not to smile.
“Fantastic.” I narrowed my gaze at him. “You?”
“Best sleep I’ve had in ages.” He finished feeding Dixie and put her in the highchair, his gaze settled on me. “Bad news. I can’t do menu planning today. There’s a team charity thing I forgot about.”
My immediate reaction was disappointment but I reminded myself that I had no real claim on Alex or his time. It was just the bucket of ice water I needed on my overheated thoughts and I simply nodded, flashing an understanding smile befitting any wife of convenience. “Sure. No problem.”
“I can’t get out of it,” he explained further, guilt softening his tone.
“It’s all right, Alex. Work is your priority. I get it.” And maybe this break was just what I needed to get a hold of my emotions before our wedding day. “I’ll handle it.”
“Thank you.” Relief relaxed his broad shoulders and he stood, ready to leave but not before he pressed the sweetest kiss to Dixie’s forehead and stopped to give me one too. “See you girls later.”
“That was interesting,” Henrietta said, a knowing smile on her face.
I didn’t bother denying anything. The penthouse was big but it wasn’t so big that she hadn’t noticed where I’d slept, or where I hadn’t. “Thank you for watching Dixie.” The venue, the cake and even the invitations were taken care of. Now there was just the menu and we would be good to go.
Before getting dressed for the appointment, I called one of my fellow nannies from the agency to see if she was free. “Hey Toni, it’s Sasha.”
“What’s up, girl? Have you found a new placement yet?”
“Yeah, I’m here now, but that’s not what I’m calling about.” I inhaled and on the exhale explained about the wedding and my need for a meal tasting partner.
“Wow,” she laughed. “I have so many questions, but not enough time to ask, get the answers or go taste testing with you. Sorry. Try Lucy.”
Bummer. “Maybe I will, thanks.”
“Yep, and don’t think we won’t be having a conversation about this soon.” With another laugh Toni ended the call.
Lucy and I weren’t all that close, but I knew her well enough to ask, but her easy acceptance surprised me. “I’ll meet you at the caterer,” she said quickly.
An hour later Lucy and I sat at a small table with Dixie and Lena at our sides. “Don’t tell anyone but this was my favorite part of wedding planning. For some women it’s the dress but for me it was the food.” She laughed and her eyes sparkled with pure bliss.
“The cake tasting has been my favorite so far,” I admitted. My mind tried to pull up the memories of Alex replacing the cake with his delectable mouth but I shoved them away. “This part isn’t bad either.” The food was good but making a decision had struck me with fear so palpable that I couldn’t move. “I can’t choose.”
Lucy nodded knowingly. “That’s all right. Pick your top two or three from each course and ask if you can take them home to your groom, name dropping him if you have to, so that you can decide together. It’ll work, trust me.”
“Yeah, okay. Thanks.” What in the hell was wrong with me? I’d stood at my mother’s side for dozens if not hundreds of events like this and I could normally make these choices in my sleep. This inability to make a decision was definitely about my feelings for my future husband and that just made me mad. “I’ll go ask for some to go containers.”
