GARETT - THREE YEARS LATER
“Ilove this house,” my wife says as we stand outside the front door to a two-story brownstone in Brooklyn. I wanted to move us into a fancy penthouse in New York City, but Winter was dead set against it. She kept going on and on about wanting a community for our son or daughter. So I found this house and redecorated it inside as a surprise.
“Are you ready?” I ask, rubbing her giant, pregnant belly.

“Well, I made some changes.” I fish out the key and dangle it in front of her.
She snatches it from me, walks up the front steps, and turns the lock. “I can’t believe you did this in the middle of winter.”
“It was more the fall. I wanted it done by Christmas so you could nest.”
“What do you know about nesting?”
I kiss the top of her head. “If it’s about you and your needs, I know everything, baby girl. You should know that by now.”
I hoist Winter into my arms when she moves to enter the house, cradling her to my chest. “Wait a second, baby.”
“Put me down, Garett. I’m far too big to carry,” she shrieks.
“Not a chance. It’s tradition to carry the bride over the threshold.”
“We’ve been married for over a year. I think we’re past the newlywed part.”

As soon as we’re inside, Winter looks at the renovated home. The entire place has been gutted and redone for her: marble floors, pod lights, and a white kitchen with quartz counters and cupboards.
“Garett, how did you manage all this in five months?”
“I wanted this place to be perfect.”
“You’ve already done so much. You uprooted your whole life and business to be here in New York so I can get my master’s. Then you agreed to live in the city because it felt like home to me. There isn’t a day that goes by when you don’t put me first. Our child and I are so lucky to have you.”
I hold her tighter. “You’re my life, Winter. Wherever you are, that’s where my life is. Whatever you want is what I want. You’re not lucky just because I love you. You’re lucky because I have a big dick and a magic tongue.”
