Part of me wanted to tease him and tell him that he must’ve had that conversation with himself, but I wasn’t going to be a dick when he was so focused on work. “Yes, baby. I’ll be over there in a few hours. I’m just going to stop by my place first and make sure I have something for the party tomorrow.”

And I was going to grab a few new things I’d ordered for my naughty sub.

We hadn’t practiced the whole Gray versus Daddy thing quite enough, and if we were going to be around his family tomorrow, we needed to work on that.

“Wonderful. Yes. I’ll…I’ll figure out something for dinner.” He was sweet and delightfully well-intentioned but I was not up for another round of the did he burn the pizza again game.

“I’ll pick something up, baby. You just finish working and I’ll see you soon.” That had him sighing and seemed to pull him back to reality.

“I should…you brought food last time, didn’t you?” He answered himself before I could respond. “Yes, you did. It’s my turn. I should—”

Interrupting was rude, but it was necessary to save my stomach since he honestly seemed unable to cook anything but pizza, chicken nuggets, and spaghetti. “I like taking care of you, baby. How about you make us nuggets before we go over to the party tomorrow? That way you won’t be frustrated and hungry while you pretend to have fun.”

That got a giggle from him as his little side peeked out for me. “Daddy…”

I might be silly but he couldn’t say I was wrong.

“I’ll see you soon, baby. Go back and finish your work and stop answering the phone when your family calls if you don’t want to talk to them.” I was going to show him how Do Not Disturb worked on his phone because they’d done this to him three times this week over ridiculous things that could’ve waited.

“Yes, Daddy. I’ll be good.” His wording made me laugh because I hadn’t missed the way he refused to agree to ignore them.

“Baby, asking you if you bought groceries is not a reason to call you three times in one day.” He needed to value himself a bit more than he did. “Your time is important.”

His sigh was sweet this time. “Thank you, Daddy.”

“You’re welcome, baby.” After another round of him promising to be good and me just agreeing to disagree on that one, he disconnected the call, still leaving me smiling when I thought about how cute he was and frowning when I thought about his family.

It seemed that a Daddy’s job might also be helping him set up boundaries.

“Daddy, I don’t remember if—” Camden’s words came rushing out before the door was even open, but it seemed to be the sight of the Chinese food in my hand that had him freezing in his tracks. “Oh, good. I don’t have to eat chicken nuggets again.”

“Do I want to know how many times you’ve had them this week?” My question had him standing straighter, and if we’d been in a cartoon, a light bulb would’ve gone off over his head.

“I had peanut butter toast for breakfast, Daddy.” The immediate response was followed by a quick pause as his brain scrambled to catch up to what his mouth had said. “And I ate the cucumbers you cut up for me. And the fruit.”

He’d just had all of them with chicken nuggets of some sort.

“That’s very good.” Since I still wasn’t sure where he was at on the big to little scale, I kissed his forehead as I carried in enough stuff to look like I was moving in. “I brought Chinese food, but first, I need to hang up my clothes for tomorrow.”

The vague mention of the party had Camden giving me a cute pout, but it still wasn’t enough to go on about where he was. “It’s going to be so boring.”

Sighing dramatically, he took the bag of food from me and headed toward the kitchen. “I’ll set the table, Daddy.”

Still not much help.

“Alright. Let me go set my stuff down.” By the time I got to the kitchen, Camden had laid out the food and had given us plates, both grown-up ones.

Taking his lead, I gave him a quick kiss, this time on the lips, before I sat down beside him. “If it makes you feel any better, seeing me there with you is going to make my mother insane.”

Camden barked out a laugh. “I’m not sure that’s supposed to make either of us feel good.”

Shrugging, I started dishing out the food since that seemed to be what he was waiting for. “She’s going to be jealous that you have my attention while she’s being punished and she’s an idiot but not homophobic, so I think a bit of evil delight is warranted.”
