“I’ll do it.” Arden couldn’t believe the words came out of her mouth.
“Don’t sound so excited,” she heard Buck say sarcastically from behind her.
Arden turned her head to the side. “You want me to be excited? Try showering.” She wrinkled her nose at him. “I smell at least five women on you. Must have been a hell of a party last night.”
“It was,” Puck said, winking at her. “Don’t worry; I showered. Buck can shower while I get you warmed up.”
Arden turned forward again, trying not to cry. Her heart was breaking just thinking how many women Doom had been with before saying his goodbyes this morning. Then she wanted to smack herself for even thinking of crying. He had left her to face the club alone. She had gotten herself in this mess, but would it have killed him to stay until after the club meeting?
She regretted every instance of having sex with him, especially the blowjobs. He had enjoyed them too much. If by some miracle she could do it over, she wouldn’t have been so careful with her teeth.
“Glad that’s sorted.” Wizard yawned and got out of the chair. “I can get some sleep. Puck and Buck, keep the noise down. I need my beauty sleep.”
Wizard stiffly began walking around the table he had been sitting behind, while the rest of The Last Riders used the opportunity to flee until Wizard was in a better mood.
Was he limping?
Arden bit her lip, trying to come up with an idea to get out of the inevitable without raising his ire again.
“I wouldn’t want to wake you. I can get a little loud. I’ll just clean up in here. We can do it later when you wake.”
Buck and Puck simultaneously shook their heads.
“Nope. Wizard has it arranged for the prospects to clean. We’re good to go.” Puck ran a seductive hand down the arch of her back. “Buck can take a shower while I go change the sheets. You mind making me a sandwich? I’m running on empty. I’m going to need all my strength. Don’t want you saying later I couldn’t get you to the finish line.”
Witheringly, she shoved his hand away from her. “You want me to make you a sandwich?”
“Please,” he said pitiably. “Unless you want to help me make the bed?”
“I’ll make the sandwich,” she said numbly, already deciding to do what she had to do to keep the men in the club then never step foot in it ever, ever again.
Stiltedly walking toward the kitchen, she planned to make the grossest sandwich imaginable. Should she make one for Buck? Yes, that way, they would both be in the bathroom, vomiting it out. She would have to remind them not to wake Wizard, she thought snidely.
“You do remember which room is mine?” Buck called out.
“How could I forget?” Sarcasm dripped off her tongue as she went through the doorway, remembering when Doom had carried her down the hall and Buck had opened his door naked.
As she made the sandwiches, Arden put enough peanut butter and jelly on them to make a dozen, hoping to glue their tongues to the rooves of their mouths. Feeling guilty at the thought, she poured them a large glass of milk to drink with it. Doom was pretty much the only one who drank it.
Blinking back tears, she put the remaining milk back in the refrigerator. The rest was going to spoil without him to finish it off.
With leaden footsteps, she came out of the kitchen, aware none of The Last Riders were meeting her eyes. She walked down the hallway and paused outside the door. Should she knock? She didn’t.
Opening the door, she saw Puck sitting on the bed in the dark room. With the hallway dark, all she could see was his shadowy body.
She closed the door with her hip but regretted it instantly. She should have turned the light on before closing the door.
Immediately, she knew why she hadn’t. What had to be said would be easier in the dark.
“I’m sorry, Puck. I can’t do this even to keep you and Buck in the club.” The tears she had promised she wouldn’t cry started sliding from her eyes. “Not even for Luc…” she choked out. “I love Doom. I wish I didn’t, but I do.”
Arden heard the sound of Puck getting off the bed, and then the milk and sandwich were taken from her hands. The rattle of the dishes being placed on furniture had her hand reaching for the doorknob. The door didn’t budge when she turned it.
Warm breath warned her as a mouth settled on the curve of her jaw.
“I love you too,” he said huskily.
Shocked to hear Doom’s voice, she pivoted into his waiting arms.
“Doom?” she asked uncertainly.
There was a movement at her side, then light filled the room.
