“It didn’t make me hot!” she screeched at him.

“Let’s find out,” he growled into her ear.

Doom slid his hand under her sweater to the snap the button on her jeans. She grabbed his wrist to pry his hand away. Despite her effort, though, he managed to unzip her jeans and slide his hand under the band of her panties.

“You bastard!” Arden opened her mouth to scream more at him, but before she could, she saw the intention in his eyes. He was about to kiss her.

“Don’t you dare put your mouth on mine after you—”

His lips silenced her as his hand found the dampness he was searching for. Embarrassed at him finding the truth about her lie, she tried to recoil from him. However, with his free hand, he grabbed the back of her head, holding her mouth in place as his tongue plundered her depths. Surprisingly, she tasted mint on his tongue and realized he must have brushed his teeth. All she could smell on his breath was the fresh scent of water and soap.

“Give me some more of that cream, doll,” he growled into her mouth as he sank a finger into her opening. When his thumb started rubbing her clit, she clenched his T-shirt as her body did his bidding, making it easier for his finger to slide deeper inside of her. “Come back inside.”

Jerking her mouth away from his, she used all her strength to shove him away from her.

He removed his hand and took a step away from her.

“Let me guess; you’re going to run away again.”

“Your night is already spoken for. I’ll pass,” she said shakily, reaching for the car door.

“Go ahead and run away.”

“I’m not afraid of you,” she snarled at him, jealousy eating her alive that he didn’t deny he wouldn’t be spending the rest of the night with Celeste.

“It’s not me you’re afraid of; it’s yourself.”

“Bull.”

“It’s true.”

“I just don’t see the need to spend the energy to get your vote after you told Wizard you wouldn’t let me have it, anyway. There’s a whole club full of men who can make me just as hot and who will give me their vote,” she said cuttingly.

“Come back inside and let’s find out,” he taunted, the insult not bothering him.

She opened the car door and slid inside. Before she could close the door, however, Doom planted himself in its way.

“Go ahead and run away. I believe in giving fair warnings. The next time I touch your pussy, it won’t be my finger—it’ll be my dick. Me playing Mr. Nice Guy is over.”

Arden rolled her eyes at him. “I haven’t even seen you play Mr. Nice Guy.”

“You saw him tonight when I didn’t fuck you in the kitchen.”

“I wouldn’t have let you.” She gave him the meanest glare she was capable of.

“Doll, you would have begged me.”

She started the car. He had a right to sound so confident. She wasn’t sure she would have been able to withstand an advance from him if Celeste hadn’t shown up before she had come out of the restroom.

“Jerk face, I would have laughed. Move,” she warned.

Doom moved, shutting the door for her. He was already heading back toward the club before she was done backing up. Putting the car in drive with shaky fingers, she headed back to Mama’s to drop the pans off.

Blinking back tears at the jealousy gnawing on her insides, she wanted nothing more than to text Doom that she quit. The thought ended in the next second. Her dad had such little time left; she wouldn’t upset the already burdened cart she was carrying. Doom was the least of her problems.

CHAPTER 18

THE HEADMASTER

She was so exhausted it was everything she could do to lift the trash bags into the dumpster. Calling Mama had been a big mistake. She had to listen to her beg her to quit The Last Riders, losing a good hour of sleep alleviating Mama’s concern when she was basically running on energy drinks and what food she had eaten at Mama’s during her thirty-minute break. It was beginning to take its toll.

Slinging another trash bag inside, she gritted her teeth, needing to get through the next ten oversized bags.

Finally closing the dumpster, she wearily went back inside the school. Doing a mental checklist, Arden checked off changing the lightbulb in the science lab, waxing the front lobby, and now all she had left to do was vacuum the front office and the headmaster’s.

She headed to the janitorial closet and pulled out the vacuum, rolling it to the front office, where she plugged it in. Vacuuming, she saw the clock on the wall. She had a couple of hours before having to be at the club. Finishing earlier than she had expected. The headmaster’s list had been much shorter than normal. Arden worried the list was so short because he was about to fire her dad, even though she had promised the work would be done the same way as if her dad were doing the work himself.
