“Fuck.”
Wizard poked his head up. “Right? Slides right down your throat, doesn’t it?” Eyeing him as he rose to his feet, Wizard refilled his glass.
“Damn.” As he swallowed the contents of the mug, Doom heard the sounds of chairs scraping the floor.
Wizard frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“I can’t get rid of the mugs now.”
The brothers began gathering around the bar with bated breath.
Wizard eyed the mug. “Good?”
“Better than good. Might be the best beer I’ve ever had.”
Wizard reached under the counter for one of the mugs to fill one for himself. The brothers pressed so close to the bar that Doom had to elbow Buck and Puck away as everyone watched Wizard try the beer.
“Damn.” He appreciatively licked his lips. “Brother, you know what I’ve got to do.”
Doom nodded. He knew what was coming as soon as Wizard’s mouth touched the mug.
“You want to tell her, or you want me to?”
“I’ll tell her.” Doom shouldered his way through the crowd behind him.
“By the way,” Wizard called out, “you sure you want to call her Tink? I think we should call her Frosty.”
“She’s not a Frosty.”
Tink might be able to make the beer taste as if it had come from the Ice Age, but she had managed to blast away every reserve he’d had about becoming involved with her. Bit by bit, she’d removed each reason to withstand her until all he was filled with was raw, aching need. A need that he was willing to admit no other woman was going to fulfill, at least until he was satisfied.
It only took for him to get on his bike before his conscience started in on him. What about when you leave?
He would be upfront and honest, Doom assuaged his conscience as he started the bike. It wasn’t like he wouldn’t keep in touch. He could come back to Ohio every so often until she was ready to move on… Yeah, it was going to work.
Speeding out of the parking lot, he couldn’t wait to see her. He hoped she wasn’t in bed yet… Hell, what was he thinking? He hoped she was. The first thing he was going to tell her was that Wizard was going to make her a full member. Then he was going to rip whatever T-shirt of her father’s she was wearing off. Making a mental note of which T-shirt he was going to give her, he debated over a couple he no longer wore.
He swung his bike into the parking lot of their apartment complex, then around the corner to where their building was located. He had to brake hard to keep from hitting several people.
As he gathered himself from nearly taking out three people who were fighting, he realized it was Andy taking on two other men.
He stopped the bike and saw Andy’s girlfriend lying on the walkway and Tink fighting off another man who was still beating Lizzy.
Taking out his cell phone, he pressed a button. In the same movement, he got off his bike while keeping his cool to assess the situation, determining which neck he was going to break first. When he found his target, he moved with lethal intent. It didn’t bother him that he was about to take a life—the fucker who had been beating the unconscious woman with a metal pipe deserved to die. The wrath heading his way wasn’t about the unconscious woman but because he was aiming it at Tink now. He had sealed his fate when he struck a Last Rider’s woman.
CHAPTER 40
THE KILLS
Doom caught the sawed-off steel pipe an inch from Tink’s face.
Caught by surprise, the man turned his head toward him. Doom didn’t give him time to react; he rocked the fucker’s world with a strike so hard he crumpled to the ground.
Without pity, Doom struck him again to make sure he was down for the count. Then, seeing Tink had run to Lizzie before the man had landed on the ground, he jerked his phone out of his pocket. “Call 911.”
Tink raised frightened eyes to his. “Help Andy.”
“Baby, you don’t have to ask.” He tightened his hand on the pipe and started toward the two men fighting Andy.
One caught sight of him and broke off from punching Andy preparing to take him on, shouting toward the man on the ground.
“Micah, what in the fuck are you doing? Get up!”
Doom coldly laughed. “Save your breath. He won’t be getting up.”
“What did you do to my brother?” the man screeched, taking a swing at him as he drew closer.
Doom dropped the pipe and took the hit, using the opening to grab the man by the neck and jerk him closer. Closing his hands around the scumbag’s throat, he started squeezing.
He heard strangled gasps coming from the man and ignored his ineffective struggle while checking on Andy, who was struggling to get away, his frantic gaze on Lizzie.
