Dabbing at her pussy gently, I murmur, “Take a bath tomorrow and soak.”

“Is this coming from Dr. Dan or boyfriend Daniel?”

“Both,” I grumble. “I want you to heal up some because this time tomorrow, I’m going to fuck you wild.”

“Dirty doctor,” she teases.

I chuckle. “Seriously, though. How do you feel?”

“A little sore…” She chews on her bottom lip. “Why did I bleed?”

I finish cleaning her and then toss the rag. “Because that’s what little virgins do.”

When I stand and cover her with the blanket, she frowns at me. “Where are you going?”

“Home.”

“I want you to stay.”

“If I stay, I’m going to test my already fraying restraint.”

She swallows and nods, but her eyes flash with loneliness. Ahh, fuck.

“How about I stay with you until you fall asleep?” I suggest.

Her eyes light up. “I’d like that.”

I turn off the lights and kick off my shoes before sliding into bed beside her. Wrapping my arm around her, I nuzzle her hair and kiss her neck.

“You ever feel like your world’s been knocked off its axis?” I ask.

She nods. “Yeah. Like now?”

“Yeah, like now.”

“Is it bad?” she asks, her voice small and unsure.

“Not for us,” I murmur. “For us, it feels really good.”

“But?”

“Who says there’s a but?”

“There’s always a but.”

I find her mouth in the dark and kiss it. “Not with us.”

“Where are you taking me on our date tomorrow?”

“It’s a surprise.”

She relaxes, seemingly happy at my words. When she drifts off to sleep, I linger. I kiss her face and inhale her sweet scent. And I wonder what the fuck kind of date will be perfect enough for a girl like her.

Lauren knocked me off my axis all right.

And I’m not looking to fix it either.

I want her. All of her. For us to spin and spin off course until we’re in our own little realm of happiness. Relationships that start out hot, fast, and fiery should last forever, right? I certainly have never felt this way about anyone before. Or is it the quicker they catch fire, the quicker they die out?

Nothing’s dying on my watch.

I’ll stoke her inner flame over and over.

I don’t care if any of this is reckless and fast.

She’s mine.

I’m not letting her go.

“So let me get this straight,” Morris says, groaning as he lifts the bar full of weights up high. “You’re going on a date. You? Dr. I Don’t Do Relationships?”

He sets the bar down and looks at me in confusion.

“Yes, dumbass, and I need unique ideas that don’t involve something messy in the backseat of a sports car.”

He snorts. “Well, there goes 99 percent of my dates.”

“I want to give her something unique. Something perfect.”

“Yeah, okay, stalker. Why don’t you take her to the police station and file a restraining order on yourself?”

“Fuck off,” I grumble. “I’m being serious.”

He sits up and wipes the sweat from his face with a towel. “I can tell. That’s what freaks me out. You’re never serious about anyone.”

No one has ever measured up to Lauren. She’s beautiful and sexy and funny and fiery.

“Right, so you’re looking about three seconds from rushing a jewelry store to buy an engagement ring. Let’s dial back the romantics here for a sec, Romeo. What does she like?”

I think about her Instagram account. She likes food, that’s a given. And sunsets. Books, too.

“I’m going to invite her to Mom’s on Sunday,” I tell him.

“Oh, Jesus,” he groans. “I’ve lost you. You’re head over fucking heels for this woman. What’s her name again? Do I know her?”

“Lauren,” I grit out.

“Lauren as in the hot young blonde from the gym a couple of weeks ago?”

His description of her grates on my nerves. “Yeah.”

“Dude, she’s a fucking teenager.”

“Eighteen,” I growl. “Your point?”

He laughs at me. “I thought you were just into her because she had a nice ass in yoga pants, but I didn’t actually think you were that into her. How did you two meet anyway? Please don’t tell me through your daughter.”

I rub at the tension on the back of my neck. “Don’t talk about her ass or I’ll throttle you. And I met her…” I shoot him a helpless look.

“Don’t fucking say at BCH.”

“She was my patient and—”

“Shhh,” he hisses. “Are you trying to get slapped with a lawsuit and lose your license?”

“It’s not like that,” I bark out.

“Man, you’re five seconds from fucking your damn patient and you’re telling me it’s not like that.” He shakes his head. “Me, I expect this of me. I’m a little shit. But you? Mr. Responsible? I just don’t get it. Why her?”

“I don’t know,” I snap, fury burning through me. “I just connected with her and it grows more intense by the day. I want her more than anything I’ve ever wanted in my entire life.”

“She’s eight-fucking-teen,” he reminds me. “I get the whole mid-life crisis shit, hence my badass car, but seriously, man? What could you possibly have in common with a little girl?”
