My only complaint was that he’d spent a lot of time with his creepy father those first few months. Seriously, there’s something off about that man. Though, I will say I knew where Draco got his looks. His dad was pretty handsome. Just vibed weird, that’s all. Anyway, his father moved away and retired somewhere, so now it wasn’t a problem.

I parked my Jeep at the side of the road and spotted Draco up the hill, hovering over one of the men. He had an entire team of archaeologists conducting a dig on the north part of the island.

God, I love it here. Crete was amazing.

I even had extended family who lived here, though we weren’t technically related. I wasn’t a Spiros by blood. But boy, did they love doing nice things for Draco. So helpful. Then again, most people were that way with him. He asked nicely, and people bent over backwards to help. Like magic.

I got out of the car, holding a picnic basket. I had to teach in an hour—English, not history, but that was fine for now. I liked helping others, and teaching was a great way to do it.

“Hey, babe,” I called out. “I brought lunch! Turkey sandwiches.”

Draco turned and waved. “Come up here. Look what we found today.”

God, not another earring, I hope. Draco owned the largest collection of ancient Greek and Minoan metalwork. Most of it was on loan to a museum, but the man had a lot of seashell earrings.

I hiked up the steep embankment, happy I had on my low tops. “What’s the treasure du jour?”

Draco turned, wiping his sweaty forehead with a handkerchief. It was cute that he always carried one.

“Whatcha got?” I asked.

He held out a gold ring with a really interesting blue stone.

I blinked. “What’s this?”

“Will you marry me, Piper?” He got down on one knee in the dirt.

My eyes teared. I’d expected it to happen eventually; I mean, our love was intense, but it was still a surprise.

“Well?” he urged.

“Yes. Yes.” I threw my arms around his neck and bathed his face in sloppy kisses. He got to his feet and spun me around while I squealed, happier than ever.

He set me down and slid on the ring.

“Ooh. Tingly. What kind of metal is this?” It almost felt electric.

“White gold, I believe. The ring is very old, handed down for generations. Do you like it?”

I loved it. “Yes.” I kissed him again. “I love you.”

The men around us started clapping.

“Thank you.” I blushed. “I wish I could stay and convince you to do something all romantic, like make out on the beach, but I have to be in class soon.”

“I will walk you to the car.”

Hand in hand, we went down the embankment. When I got to the car door, I turned and faced him.

“Oh, by the way,” I said, “I think I figured out why I keep having all those weird dreams lately.” It was some really heavy stuff, too—Draco and I fighting to save the world, wars everywhere, and people losing their freaking minds all over the place. They were so realistic that I’d wake up crying and sweating. I couldn’t stop talking to Conni about them on the phone. She kept telling me it was hormones. Those kind of hormones.

“Oh?” he said.

“I think I’m pregnant.” I pressed my hand to my stomach.

He stared for a moment, his face turning pale. “A new Seer.”

“What?” Was he happy or angry or…?

“Nothing.” He smiled and kissed my hand. “I see that things are going to get interesting.”

“Good interesting or bad interesting?” Because I was thrilled.

“Good. I am certain good. But I think we should call my mother. We are going to need help.”

THE END?
