I start to get off the stage with his help. I’m sweating in my heels and ready for the food that was promised to me, when Addison casually walks up to us and says through clenched teeth, “What the hell was that?”

Killian grabs a plate and starts piling it high with cheese, crackers, grapes, I follow suit. “A special song.”

“You didn’t use any of the words on the list.” She seethes. “I’m paying you good money to be here.”

“What can I say? I can’t be tamed.” He pops a grape in his mouth and smiles while I try to hold in the laughter. Her head is minutes from exploding. “Plus, I’m the artist, you’re just the person who hired me, and in my contract it specifically states I needed to sing, so I sang. You’re welcome. It’s going to be all over the internet tonight, making you even more impossible to deal with.”

I choke on my spit when trying to swallow and wait for her to strangle him or throw a heel at his face.

Her smile freezes on her face. “Stick to the track list for tomorrow.”

“Yes ma’am.”

She thrusts a polished nail right in my face. “And you!” I back up a bit and keep chewing. “Don’t think I don’t know what’s going on between you guys. You’ve got everyone fooled but there is no chance in hell you’re actually dating.” She snorts out a laugh and pulls out her phone. “Especially when he already has a girlfriend back in LA?”

Killian frowns. “Who?”

She shows us the phone screen. “Oh, shit I forgot about her, I’m doing the song for her last movie, Shaylin James I think? She’s super sweet, she’s also sixteen so not only is that illegal but I like a girl with an ass.”

Me. I’m that girl.

Addison shakes her head. “Nope, I’m still not buying it.” Her lethal stare refuses to let me blink. “Listen, I know you’re jealous because I always get all the attention, but if you ruin my wedding like you ruined your own, I’ll ruin your life.”

“That was so many ruins,” Killian says under his breath.

I almost laugh when her smile turns cold. “You weren’t good for Rob, you sure as hell aren’t good enough for a famous rockstar, and you’ve had spinach in your teeth the last five minutes.” Her eyes rake over me one more time. “You even had to copy my dress. Unbelievable.” She turns around and stomps off, head held high.

I wipe my face with the back of my hand then jump toward her disappearing form only to have strong arms come around me pinning me in place. “Let me kill her.”

“Violence solves nothing if you have so many witnesses,” he whispers in my ear. “And your boobs are dangerously close to popping out of the top of your dress. The last thing we need is a nip slip.”

I relax against him. “Fine, I won’t chase her and force her to eat shrimp just so I can see her face puff up.”

He slowly releases me. “As a fan of torturing horrible human beings, I’d probably just look in the other direction and at the very least drive the getaway car.”

“Who’s driving the getaway car?” A familiar voice sounds.

Panic slaps me across the face. “A-Adrian?” I smile. He doesn’t know the story. He has no idea.

I thought his flight got delayed.

“Surprise!” He’s dressed in a navy suit, with a white T-shirt underneath and clearly just got a haircut. His messy dark hair is shaved high on the sides and longer on top. Honestly, he and Killian could be related. “Had I known my date was gonna look this smoking I would have sprinted here.” His eyes land on Killian. “Your services are no longer needed.”

“Oh, I served.” His eyes narrow as he protectively pulls me against his side. “And I’m officially her date, you know since we’re engaged and all.”

Adrian’s eyes bug out of his head. “You said yes to Mr. Illuminati over here?”

“Wow. Good one,” Killian deadpans. “And I’m saving her ass and yours, a thank you is welcome anytime.”

“I’m a man of the cloth, who shall not lie.” Adrian reaches for his shoulder like he’s going to pat it then taps the leather jacket. “Vintage. Nice.”

“Look.” I step between them. “Let’s not do this here, let’s just go back up to the room.”

Adrian nods. “Lead the way, I’m assuming you already checked us in?”

Killian laughs and rubs his hand down his face. “I checked us in.”

“No offense dude, but I’m not sleeping with you, not even with the voice of an angel.” Adrian tries to grab my arm.

“Room.” I grit my teeth. “Now.”

My sister’s already making a beeline in our direction.

“Shit!” I take a deep breath. “Act normal!” The guys share a look. “I mean normal for you two! Just—don’t argue, and if you can’t lie, Adrian, don’t speak at all. In fact, you are hereby muted until we get out of here.”
