He hummed and ran his fingers through my hair. “If I wasn’t so goddamn tired I’d do it again.”

“I know you would.”

RUSH

I swiveled around on the office chair in the Fixer Brothers Construction offices, waiting for Nathan to walk back in the meeting room. Outside the windows of the meeting room I watched two beefy men hauling in a big ceramic sink, likely storing it here to later be used on some property.

“Is the view always so nice here in your offices?” I asked Nathan as he walked back in carrying big, rolled-up sheets of paper. “Must be nice to work in construction.”

He looked over through the windows, smiling. “Those guys bring us pieces every few weeks, and yes, they’re hotties. Straight hotties, though.”

“Too bad,” I said.

Nathan sat down and rolled out the big plans on the table in front of us. I was here today to finalize the plans for my kitchen, which was going to be the biggest project in my house.

“No Shawn today?” I asked casually. It had been almost a week since Shawn had spent the night with me. I’d figured that I’d be seeing Shawn and Nathan almost every day with the renovations, but all week we’d been waiting on a delayed shipment of lumber before we could continue on with the back deck.

But each day since I’d last seen him, Shawn had been on my mind too much. Way too much. We’d also been texting each other, which had seemed perfectly innocent before I’d fucked him senseless, but now was starting to become an addiction. I started it out easy, the day after he’d spent the night. I asked renovation-related questions, made sure he was staying hydrated, and sent a photo of my dinner. But over the week it had blossomed into texting him good night each night, then sometimes good morning when I woke up, too.

It was starting to get to the point where every time I heard my phone buzz I got a little irritated when it wasn’t Shawn’s name that popped up.

“No Shawn today,” Nathan confirmed, his eyes fixated on the plans in front of us. “He’s out finalizing things at the last fixer-upper, but he’ll be at the dinner tonight. I’m bringing Maddy, too.”

Nathan had invited me to dinner tonight with the whole Wood family, at his parents’ house. It had been a long time since I’d seen the rest of the family. Growing up, the Wood family’s house had been like my own second home. It always felt like more of a welcoming home than my own, anyway, and ten times more so after I’d come out and Dad had seemed to give up on me. The idea of spending time with all of the Wood siblings and their parents felt like a warm hug to me right now.

Plus, maybe I could have a little fun making Shawn squirm. “Buttering him up,” as he sometimes liked to call it. Where was the harm in that?

“Dude,” Nathan said. “You have to check out what we drew up for the east wall of the kitchen. You’re going to love this.”

“Do I spy a built-in bar in these blueprints?” I asked, leaning over to look at them more closely.

“Damn right,” Nathan said, proud. “I worked with our draftsman on that one but I can claim the idea was mine.”

“I fucking love it,” I said, my eyes scanning the blueprints. “Show me some other options, but I’m going to have a hard time saying no to that.”

Nathan sat down and over the next few minutes, he talked me through each of the different options. I was impressed with the quality of the blueprints—not that I thought Fixer Brothers wouldn’t be amazing, but over the years, Nathan and Shawn had clearly grown their business into a slick, professional place.

As Nathan was flipping through some of the plans, my phone buzzed and I checked to see something from Shawn, my body getting that familiar little burst of energy from seeing his name.

>>Shawn: Which of these pics is better for my dating profile?

Attached were three different photos of him. In one, he was posing with his sister and her dog. In another, he was on a hike.

And in the last photo, he was shirtless, one arm leaning on some big construction equipment, clearly on a job site. Oh, he was learning quick, all right. In the picture it was clearly a hot day, and he was sweaty, glistening, and his muscles were taut and on full display. He was goddamn smoking hot.

>>Rush: You just sent me these as an excuse to get revenge on me and make me drool over that shirtless photo.

>>Shawn: What? I just needed advice for the apps. Some dating coach you are…

>>Rush: Since when do you have a tattoo? I see it there on your arm.
