I reached up and started scratching away. “That better?”
“That’s a tickle. Not a scratch.”
“A tickle? If I scratch any harder, I’m gonna draw blood.”
“Do it, Sutton.”
“Fine,” I grumbled as I dug in a little firmer.
“Okay, now move to the left.”
I did as she said, but it wasn’t enough. “Down some... to the right just a little.... Oh, good grief!”
She jumped up and grabbed a spatula from the drawer, raking it across her shoulders. Wounded, I threw my hands up and asked, “What?”
“How is it possible that a man with a hand the size of yours can’t do any better than that?”
“I don’t know what to tell ya, babe. I'm pretty sure I got it.”
She continued rubbing the spatula across her back as she sassed, “I’m pretty sure you didn’t.”
“I tried.”
A mischievous smirk slipped across her face as she teased, “Thank God you don’t have that problem in the bedroom.”
“Yeah, that’s an itch I can handle. Speaking of which...”
I started towards her, but she quickly stepped back and pointed the spatula at me. “Don’t even think about it.”
“Too late. I’m already thinking about it.”
“Well, think about something else.” She took another step back. “Are you hungry?”
“Um-hmm.”
“Well, there’s leftover pizza.” She started toward the fridge as she said, “I could fix you a burger or—”
She was about to open the refrigerator door when I reached for her, pulling her over to me. “That’s not what I’m hungry for.”
Casey’s eyes quickly filled with lust as she stared at my lips. “Sutton.”
“How long before Toby gets home from school?”
“Another hour or so.”
“Perfect.”
I grabbed her up and pulled her into my arms, then lowered my mouth to hers with a hard, demanding kiss. Her hands dove into my hair as I delved deeper into her mouth. It didn’t take long for things to become heated. I had something to ask her, and if I didn’t do it right then, I’d regret it. So, I pulled back and looked into those beautiful brown eyes as I asked, “You know I love you, right?”
She nodded. “Hm-hmm.”
“Good.” I slipped a ring on her finger as I asked, “How ‘bout you let me have the next fifty or sixty years to show you how much?”
As if in shock, she slowly lifted her hand and stared at the diamond ring on her finger. It was a two-carat princess cut diamond with two single-carat diamonds on either side. And just as I’d hoped, it looked amazing on her hand. After several seconds, Casey faced me with her dark eyes locked on mine. “It’s beautiful.”
“That’s not an answer, babe.”
“Are you kidding?” she giggled. “Of course, I’ll marry you!”
Unable to put my feelings into words, I slid my hand behind her neck and pulled her in for another kiss. My tongue swept across her bottom lip, and she opened her mouth, welcoming my kiss.
I lowered my hands to her hips and reached for her lace panties, easing them down her legs. Desire flashed through her eyes as I lifted her up and placed her on the kitchen counter.
“You have any idea how bad I want you right now?”
“Um-hmm.” She purred. “Just as much as I want you.”
We’d both been through hell, but we’d come out on the other side—better, stronger, and a hell of a lot happier. Our story was far from a fairy tale, but we got our happy ending, and I had every intention of keeping her happy until I took my last breath.
The End
