“Good girl. Come on,” I say helping her off of the table and onto her feet.

“Where are we going?” she asks as I help her back into her dress before getting dressed myself.

“Home, baby girl. We’re going home.”

I want her in my space, in my bed, with my ring on her finger, and back on my cock where she fucking belongs.

CHAPTER

FIVE

Lily

After we get his car from the valet, we drive to Queens and are now pulled up at a gated driveway. He punches in a code, and the gate swings open. We drive past several houses until we reach a modest home tucked back in the woods. He parks in the driveway, and we get out and go inside, where he strips me again. He makes love to me slowly before pulling me against his chest. I just close my eyes, realizing how exhausted I am when his phone starts ringing at the same time someone bangs on his front door.

“What’s going on?” I ask as he gets out of bed and pulls on some gym shorts.

“Nothing, baby girl. Go to sleep. I’ll be right back.”

He leaves the room, closing the door behind him. I lay in his bed, listening to shouting coming from the living room. Once it quiets down, he still doesn’t come back, so I get out of bed. Pulling his dress shirt on, I walk into the living room and stare in shock at the two bloody men in the room. One is lying on the coffee table, while the other is on the couch. Ray is digging into his medical bag. There is a heavily pregnant blonde woman standing near one of the men, sobbing.

I don’t have any idea what’s going on here, but I know that I need to help him. I spring into action, by taking the blonde woman into the kitchen. I take a few seconds to learn the lay of the land and start boiling water for tea.

“My husband…” She sounds so broken, and my heart goes out to her. I’ve never been in a situation like this, but I can imagine how horrible it is.

“What happened?” I ask, needing to know what the hell is going on.

“He got shot. We were cleaning a kill sight, and someone ambushed us. He pushed me behind him. He saved me. He always saves me.”

“A kill sight?” I question.

“Yeah. One of Albie’s brothers killed a high value target, and we went to clean the scene. We never saw the Popov enforcer. What will I do when he dies?”

She looks familiar. I know I’ve seen her on the news and on social media. Then it dawns on me. She’s Autumn Vitali, the face of the many Vitali charities. The Vitali’s are well known in New York for being the number two crime family, right behind the DeSantis. They are allies, though, so they are pretty comfortable being number two. She’s still sobbing as the water boils. I busy myself making her a cup of tea, trying to decide on what to say to her. There’s no guide for dummies for this kind of situation.

“Autumn, he’s not going to die. Ray is…” I trail off because I realize that while I don’t know if he’s good at his job, something tells me that he is. “Great at his job.”

“I know. This isn’t the first time we’ve been here in the middle of the night, but it is the first time Albie has been unresponsive. Who are you by the way? I’ve never seen a woman with Ray.”

“I’m Lily Canton. It’s really nice to meet you, but I wish it was under better circumstances.”

“Me too.”

“Autumn?” Ray says, coming into the kitchen.

“Is he alive, Ray?”

“He’s fine. He hit is head when he went down. I got the bullet out. I just need to do stitches. The Russian is dead, but Albie is asking for you.”

She rushes out of the room, looking relieved. I look at Ray. He’s covered in blood.

“Are you okay?” I ask.

“I’m fine, but I should be asking you that.”

“I’m fine,” I chuckle.

“But the bodies…”

“Oh, Ray. Can you even call yourself a New Yorker if you haven’t seen a body?”

“But this is different. It could bring danger into our lives.”

“So what? Life is dangerous for everyone. This isn’t going to scare me away unless you want it to.”

“Hell no, baby girl,” he says, grabbing my arm and dragging me to him, putting blood on me in the process. I should be grossed out, but I’m not. “I took your fucking cherry. If you think I’ll ever let you go after that, you’re crazy.”

“What are you saying?” I ask.

“We’re getting married as soon as humanly possible.”

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Yeah. I’ll marry you.”

It might be crazy. It might be the biggest mistake of my life, but I have to do it. I need to be his wife.
