It made me ecstatic that Marley was comfortable enough now to bottom. His submission was proof of the solidity of our growing relationship. Every day, our love and commitment grew stronger. He told me once that not being in control activated his anxiety. Bottoming made him overthink everything. Apparently, when he was in charge, he was so focused on taking care of my needs and manipulating the situation, it left no time for intrusive thoughts.

Reluctantly, I pull out of him and run to the bathroom and clean up like I am The Flash on a mission. When I step into our bedroom, Marley’s dressed in a pair of gray jogging pants slung low on his hips.

“You know, if you walk around like that, I’ll have to shackle you to the bed and have my way with you.”

Marley rolls his eyes before grabbing my hand and tugging me to our home studio. He pulls out a stool and pats it. “Sit.”

“Hey, I thought I was supposed to be the bossy one today.”

Marley laughs. God, I’ll never tire of the sound. If I hear nothing but this man’s laugh for the rest of my life, I’d be happy.

“You can take the reins as soon as I’m done. Promise.”

He sits on the piano bench and the room fills with a melodic arrangement of Beyoncé’s “XO”.

I have an urge to complain until Marley belts the lyrics out and my jaw drops all the way to the hardwood floor. Marley’s voice is hauntingly beautiful. The way it breaks at certain points in the song actually makes me like Beyoncé.

When he finishes the last word of the lyrics, I jump out of my chair and pull him into my arms. “How the hell did I not know you can sing like that?”

“I don’t sing very often. There really wasn’t a need for it as a classical pianist, and the band has Lars. It’s something I’m also not very comfortable doing in public, anyway. I just wanted you to hear the arrangement. The lyrics are how I feel about you. I wish I could write you something original, but I’m a composer, not a lyricist, so I thought the next best thing would be to arrange the music. The lyrics make me think of you.”

“Your arrangement is perfect, baby. It made me actually like pop shit.”

Marley wraps his arms around me. “I love you, you know.”

“I know. I love you too.”
