“Well, I’ve got one back at my ship—my husband Lone can give it to you,” she said. “He was just getting our twins to bed when I got the call to come back for the verdict.”
She gave him the coordinates and Torus thanked her. His anxiety for Molly was growing by the minute—he needed to contact her and make sure she was all right.
As he left the courtroom, he noticed that her ex-Mate was still on his phone. He was looking at the screen and saying something in a low, intense voice. As Torus walked past him, he looked up briefly and shot him a smirk. It was a self-satisfied expression that made the worm in Torus’s gut twist again.
What was going on with the fucking human, he wondered briefly. Councilor Paige had been certain the verdict was going to go against him—so why was Zach Wyndham looking so pleased with himself?
But he didn’t have time to worry about Molly’s ex-Mate—he needed to find her as quickly as possible. He walked faster and faster and by the time he left the courthouse he was nearly running.
He couldn’t shake his ever-growing anxiety and the sense that something was very, very wrong.

MOLLY
Molly was dragged in the back room and her hands were bound behind her back with zip-ties. Someone shoved her down on what felt like a mattress on a rickety bed frame that creaked when she landed on it.
“Help! Help me!” she shouted, her voice muffled by the dirty pillowcase over her head.
“Shut up, bitch,” a masculine voice snarled. It was slightly familiar, Molly thought. “Nobody can hear you anyway—there’s nobody here but us.”
“Okay, I did my part—now where’s my money?” Karen’s voice asked.
“Karen?” Molly exclaimed. “Karen, what’s going on?”
“Shut up, you little slut,” Karen snapped. “What’s going on is we’re going to get rid of you—or at least he is. That’s not what I signed up for.”
“He? Who’s he?” Molly demanded.
The pillowcase was finally whisked off her head and the face of Mandrew Pate appeared, grinning at her.
“Surprise, bitch!” he said with savage glee. “Remember me? The guy whose Maserati your fucking freak of a husband ruined?”
“What?” Molly stared at him blankly. “What are you talking about? Why did you bring me here? Let me go!”
“I don’t think so. I have someone here who wants to talk to you.”
He shoved a phone in her face and Molly saw Zach’s image on the screen.
“Ah—there she is,” her ex said, giving her an evil smile. “Hi babe—how’s it going?”
“Zach? What’s this all about?” She felt sick with fear but she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing that. So she did her best to keep her voice steady and her expression neutral.
“What’s this all about?” he mused, repeating her question. He was speaking in a low, angry voice, as though he didn’t want anyone else around him to hear what he was saying. “Well, I don’t know, Molly. Maybe it’s about the fact that you fucked me over. The fact that you sent your fucking Kindred husband down to steal my latest game and beat me up!”
“I never sent Torus—he went on his own!” Molly protested.
“Yeah, right.” He gave a snort of derision. “You screwed me and you know it. But you couldn’t stop there—noooo. Then you sued me and got the fucking jury on your side!”
“You sued me first! Or you sued Torus, anyway,” Molly pointed out. “And how can you know the jury is on my side? They haven’t even come back with a verdict yet!”
“Oh yes they have,” Zach said grimly. “And according to my source, they’re going to award you a shit-ton of money—my money, you bitch!” he snarled.
“What?” Molly shook her head. Nothing he was saying made any sense. “What are you talking about?”
“They want to give you everything I have!” Zach glared at her. “They’re trying to wipe me out! And it’s all your fucking fault, you little cunt!”
He broke off for a moment and looked away from the phone screen. His face twisted into a triumphant smirk as he looked at someone she couldn’t see, and then he looked back at Molly.
“If you’re wondering who I was looking at, it’s your fucking husband,” he told her. “I do believe he’s going to look for you so the jury can give their verdict. Not that he’s going to find you. Nobody’s going to find anything of you except maybe your bones, years from now.”
Molly’s entire body went cold.
“Wh-what are you talking about?” she demanded and now her voice was shaking no matter how she tried to steady it.
“I’m talking about what my good friend is going to do to you, babe,” he snarled. “Hey, big M!”
“Yeah, Zach?” Mandrew Pate turned the phone around so they could talk face-to-face.
“Get rid of her and be sure to hide the body,” Zach told him. “But be sure you fuck her up first—make her sorry she tried to screw me. I’d do it myself if her fucking Kindred husband hadn’t put me in these casts!”
