“Thank the gods and goddesses.” He grins and then lowers his head to kiss around my breasts. His hands roam over me, gently in some places and more eagerly in others, but every bit of it is absolute ecstasy. “Now that a few centuries of pent-up energy is gone, I can take my time with you, learn every line. Every curve. And listen to you moan.”

“I had no idea you’d be a dirty-talker.”

He stops, and his gaze whips to mine, then he grins and starts chuckling as he lays me flat on my back and pins my hands above my head with one hand.

He didn’t exaggerate. The pace is slow and easy, but my heart pounds in my chest as his mouth and hand roam over me. He whispers words of appreciation, and when he’s so far south he can’t reach my hands anymore, he lifts his head and sternly says, “Keep them there.”

“Okay.”

I expect him to use his mouth on me. Instead, he kisses and licks his way down my legs. He kisses the arches of my feet, each toe, and when I can’t take it anymore and reach for him, Jonas simply shakes his head.

“Hands. Above. Your head.”

I bite my lip and comply, and I’m rewarded when he spreads my legs wide.

His chest heaves as he takes a long, deep breath, and then, with his eyes pinned to mine, he finally lowers his head and presses his lips to my clit.

“Jonas!” My hips buck, and his hands cradle them as he takes his time licking and exploring all of me. Finally, when I’m reduced to a whimpering, shivering mess, he crawls over me, kisses his way up my body, and with his hands planted in my hair, and those eyes glued to mine once more, he pushes inside of me.

The candle flames grow around us, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt before.

You’re amazing, he says in my mind and tips his head down so he can kiss my neck. You feel incredible. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted and didn’t know I needed, Luciana.

I can’t believe you were there all this time.

I feel him smile against my skin, and then his mouth is on mine, nibbling my bottom lip.

I raise my hips to meet him and pull my legs back and higher on his hips.

“Lucy,” he whispers, and I can feel that he’s close now. “Ah, baby.”

With my hands planted on his ass, urging him faster and deeper, he comes apart and succumbs to his orgasm.

Much later, after we’ve cleaned up and are curled up together in bed, he pulls me against him and kisses my forehead.

“I’m pretty sure the earth moved,” I say. “Literally. Was there an earthquake?”

“Maybe a small one.”

When I look up into his face, he’s grinning with so much pride it makes me giggle.

Suddenly, Nera starts to bark downstairs.

“You’ve got to be kidding me, Nera,” I mutter as I get out of bed and pull my robe around me. “I told him not to bug us unless it was an emergency.”

“We should bring him up here,” Jonas suggests. “He’s not used to being without you.”

“Sometimes a girl needs some privacy,” I remind him with a wink and then walk out of the bedroom and downstairs to where Nera is standing, looking into the apothecary and snarling. “What is it?”

He doesn’t even look back at me, he just continues barking and growling, the hair on his back standing on end.

“Nera?”

But he only gets louder. I call out to Jonas. Help!

I hear his footsteps above me as he hurries from the bed and down the stairs. When he reaches us, he walks directly in front of us and starts to speak.

“You hold no power here.” His voice is strong and firm. “You are not welcome. Get out of this house and don’t return.”

Nera whimpers and leans into my side, and I gently pet his back from his neck to his tail in long, reassuring strokes.

A quick wind passes through, and then everything goes quiet once more.

“I have wards.” I hear the shakiness in my voice. “I place spells and jars all over this building. How in the world was something able to get in?”

“It’s strong,” is all Jonas says, his face set in grim lines. “And first thing tomorrow, we’re calling the coven to come and set protection spells around not only this house but Breena’s and Lorelei’s, as well. I felt what happened at Breena’s today.”

“Oh.” I blink, surprised. “I didn’t even connect this to that.”

“It’s the same.” He props his hands on his hips. He’s still shirtless, and his jeans hang low on his lean hips.

I could just bite him.

“I don’t know why it’s attempting to get to each of you now. Unless it’s trying to scare you away and keep you from helping me.”
