An hour later, after I’d gotten to know everyone better, I was finally stuffing my face with chicken, potato salad, and green beans. “Mmm, so good.”

His breath hot against my ear, Leyton murmured, “You sound almost as satisfied as when I make you come.”

Keane chose that moment to join us, and my cheeks filled with heat. Elbowing Leyton in the side, I muttered, “No funny stuff from you, mister.”

“If you need any help keeping my brother in line, just let me know,” Keane offered, dropping onto the bench across from us. “I’ve been doing it his entire life.”

“My mate knows how to handle me just fine.”

Resting his elbows on the table, Keane chose to ignore the door Leyton left wide open for teasing. Instead, his expression turned serious. “You don’t need to worry about filing a complaint with the state board about that hospital.”

Leyton explained the pack hierarchy to me, so I knew Keane was at the top. But I wasn’t sure he understood the seriousness of the situation. “I don’t really have a choice. They can’t be allowed to continue taking patients when they cannot provide quality care. People will die, and I can’t allow that to happen when there’s a process in place to alert the proper authorities.”

“Let me put it this way…how much red tape will they have to go through to shut that place down?” my new brother-in-law asked.

I grimaced and muttered, “Too much.”

“That’s what I figured.” Crossing his arms over his broad chest, Keane smirked. “That’s why I called someone who has a better chance of avoiding all the bureaucratic bullshit you would’ve had to deal with.”

“The Silver Saints?” Leyton asked.

Keane nodded. “Yeah, Link said they’d put some feelers out to a club that’s not too far from the hospital.”

“Club? Link? Silver Saints?” I echoed, my brows drawing together. “Why do I feel as though you guys are speaking in a foreign language I don’t understand?”

“Link’s daughter is mated to the alpha of the Timber Ridge pack,” Leyton explained, giving my hand a comforting squeeze. We had stopped in that town on our way here, so I was at least familiar with one thing already.

“He’s the treasurer for the Silver Saints, a motorcycle club,” Keane added.

My eyes widened. “Like a real MC?”

Leyton shrugged. “They’re not one-percenters, but they know how to get shit done when needed.”

“Which is why they’re perfect to handle this situation,” Keane clarified. “Link said the club they’re reaching out to was going to be pissed that people in their territory are getting sub-par medical care. They’ll either convince the administrators that it’s in their best interests to whip the place back in place or shut down before they kill someone. And since they’ve got a member who’s a doctor, they’ll know the right strings to pull if they have to go with the latter option.”

I felt as though a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. “I can’t believe you asked them to help with my problem.”

“Of course, I did. That’s what pack does. When one of us has an issue, we all do. And as the alpha, it’s my job to make sure everyone is taken care of.”

“Thank you,” I whispered.

“My pleasure, little sister.” He reached out and tugged the end of the ponytail that was draped over my shoulder. Leyton slapped his hand away, making both of us laugh. “And as the alpha, I’m also pretty damn good at anticipating what the members of my pack need. So I asked Cressida to call her doctor to see if he knew of any job openings you’d be interested in. As it turns out, the nurse whose maternity leave you covered only lasted a shift before she decided she wanted to take a few years off to spend with her new baby. The hospital hadn’t reached out to the agency yet, so the job’s yours if you want it.”

“I do.” Overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness, I pressed trembling fingers against my lips. “At least until we have our own cubs because I have a feeling I’ll want to take plenty of time off to enjoy them too.”

I hadn’t just found love with Leyton, I was finally part of a family again, too.

EPILOGUE

LEYTON

Iknew I needed to let Evette rest, but damn, it was hard as fuck to see her in our bed, her soft hair splayed over a pillow and her belly swollen and round with our babies. She’d only grown sexier as the pregnancy progressed. And her need for me had become voracious. Not that I had any complaints. But I’d worn her out the night before, and she’d been up early because the babies were playing a game of soccer in her stomach.

They’d finally settled down, and I convinced my mate to lay down and take a nap.

Ignoring my steel cock, I padded out of the bedroom and to the kitchen to get started on her lunch so it was ready when she woke up. Making sure my mate was well fed was a passion that had just grown when she got pregnant.
