People trusted her name, and she always wanted to give them the best product available.

Stepping back from the scene, she checked the time and saw it was a little after seven. He should be arriving very soon.

She went to the kitchen and checked on the chicken. It was still juicy, and the smell was amazing.

Finally, after half an hour of waiting, he entered the house.

“I am so sorry I’m late. I didn’t intend to be. I had to go through a few last-minute points of the contract, and then traffic was … crazy.”

She rounded the corridor and saw him standing there, looking into the dining room. She saw him swallow and smiled.

“Surprised?” she asked.

He turned to look at her. “Totally. I’m not missing an anniversary or anything.”

She chuckled. “Brice, we’ve not been together that long. Stop worrying.” She took his briefcase and helped him out of his jacket. “I figured you’ve been really busy, and I wanted to do something special.” She reached up, kissing his cheek. Wiping the lipstick mark from the spot, she took his hand.

He didn’t let her go far before he pulled her in against him. “You don’t think I see this dress.” His hands moved all over her, gripping her ass as he pulled her in. “What’s that smell?”

“Chicken.”

“I didn’t ruin it, did I?”

“No, it’s all good. Take a seat.”

She went to leave, but he wouldn’t let her go. He held her close by her ass, the hard ridge of his cock pressing against her stomach.

She wanted him.

A wave of lust shot right through her.

It was just the two of them.

She gripped the back of his head and pulled him down for the kiss she really wanted. She loved the bite of pain from his fingers and the possessive way he kissed. There was no mistaking it in her mind, she belonged to him. The kiss said so.

The touch said so.

In her mind, she belonged to him as well.

She wanted to skip dinner, but Brice chose that moment to pull back. “As much as I want to fuck you really hard and really fast right now, I want to enjoy this meal you’ve cooked for me.” He cupped her cheek. “No one has ever taken the time to cook me a meal.”

“No one?”

“No. I’ve only ever shared my mealtimes with you.” He leaned down, brushing his lips against hers. “I’m sharing a lot of firsts with you.”

Taking his hand, she helped him into his seat and laughed as he leaned back to have his hair played with. She loved running her fingers through his hair. It always felt so soft and playful.

Once she was done, she went into the kitchen, washed her hands, and pulled the chicken out of the oven, placing it on the serving platter. Around the chicken she added roasted potatoes. Carrying them to the table, she presented him with a knife to start cutting as she finished the salad, tossing the last of the dressing over.

When she got back into the dining room, he’d already carved most of the chicken and put several pieces on their plates.

“See, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” She winked at him.

“I’ve been trained by the best.”

She served them up some salad as she paused and realized they’d been sharing a lot of time with each other. He’d been staying with her, and she’d been teaching him how to cook. In a lot of ways, they’d been very domesticated.

“You’ve got this weird look,” he said.

“Nothing, just realized that we’ve been doing a lot of things normal couples do.” She shrugged, trying not to think about it.

“I talked to your mother today,” he said.

“You did. Why?”

“She wanted me to convince you to go and try on a dress.”

This had her pausing with a piece of chicken to her lips. “The dress?”

“You know, the wedding dress.”

The smile on his lips was teasing, and she didn’t like it. “You know this isn’t funny.”

“Why not? I can come with you.”

“Isn’t it, like, a bad thing for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress?” She waited for him to think about it.

“I guess, but that is if we make it down the aisle.”

“That’s true. I was wondering about that. If my mom is wanting us to go and try dresses on now, you know that means there’s going to come a point when we can’t pull out of it.”

“And that’s a bad thing?” he asked.

“Are you trying to get us married?”

He didn’t say anything, cutting into his chicken very delicately and then eating it.

“Brice, I need you to be real with me right now. I thought we agreed about this,” she said.

“Have you ever thought that being married to me wouldn’t be that much of a hardship?”

She nibbled her lip. This wasn’t what she really wanted to discuss tonight. “Let’s just forget it. I don’t want to talk about it tonight.”
