I wouldn’t dare.
epilogue
Drake:
Babe—you miss me yet?
Daisy:
Obviously. I was so bored this weekend without you.
Did you at least watch the game?
Of course I did! You look so cute in your little helmet.
Cute?
SO cute…
What else did you do while I was gone?
Um, talked to you? It’s only been 24 hours, it’s not like you flew to the moon. You were in Michigan.
Okay but still.
I’m still getting used to having someone to come home to.
I mean, we’ve been together almost five months…
Hey! We can celebrate tonight!
LOL we don’t have to celebrate.
You know. “CELEBRATE”
Is that our new code word for sex?
Obviously. Unless you want to call it something else. Fornicate has a nice ring to it.
Um, gross. That word makes me gag.
What’s worse: fornicate or moist.
Seriously?
I like this game.
No, you like the “let’s get naked” game.
EVERYONE loves the ‘get naked’ game! 10/10 would recommend cause no matter what, I always win.
Oh crap. Someone just rang the doorbell, hold on.
Who could it possibly be at 9:00 at night?
I said hold on! Stand by in case it’s a burglar.
It’s NOT a burglar…
No idea why but Drake is the last person I expect to see when I open the kitchen door, hiding behind a beautiful bouquet of red roses.
“It’s you!” I grab the bouquet like a savage and practically leap into his arms, lips immediately going to his mouth. “Oh my god, I missed you so much.”
“Babe, I missed you too.”
He smells like fresh shower and soap, and also sweaty gym bag, because I know there’s one in his truck. The scent of locker room never goes away.
I lean back so I can see his face, arms still wrapped around his waist. “Smile so I know that it’s you and not your twin brother.”
Drake’s grin lights up the dark, that tiny gap in his teeth winking at me.
It’s my favorite thing, ever.
“You’re a brat.” He laughs. “Are you going to let me come inside?”
I snicker at the innuendo.
Honestly. Look what he’s turned me into!
Drake steps inside and takes the roses from my arms, setting them on the kitchen table behind me. Wraps his arms around my waist and dips me, as if we were dancing.
Kisses me on the mouth.
“I love you, you know that?”
This is the first time he’s said those words and my heart practically stops beating.
He just told me he loves me.
What?
“I love you, too,” I whisper softly, swallowing the lump forming in my throat.
Drake furrows his brow. “Why are you making that weird face?”
I pull a face. “What weird face?”
I’m not making a weird face, I’m emotional! He just said he loves me for the first time! How is my face supposed to look?!
This is not a moment to be chill.
“You’re so cute when you’re being serious.” He kisses the tip of my nose as if he hadn’t just dropped a bomb on me; as if it were no big deal, those three little words. “This reminds me of the face you made when we first met.”
“You mean the night you were pretending to be Drew and were annoying the shit out of me?”
So loud.
So annoying.
“Yup. That’s the face.” Drake’s eyes study it, moving from my forehead to my nose to my mouth. His hand cups my jaw, thumb stroking my cheek. “Best five months ever.”
“Best five months ever,” I repeat, completely in awe of him—and totally in love.
“Let’s go celebrate.”
