“Assume the fucking position,” I barked as I came to my knees above her. Clearheaded now, Atlas dragged herself from the floor, blinked, and then happily flipped onto her stomach and arched her back. Her pussy was swollen and dripping, and I wanted back in that in the worst way.

Atlas had reclaimed her ownership and now it was my turn. I palmed my dick at the thought of flooding her unprotected pussy with cum and gave it a punishing tug.

Movement to my right had me turning my focus toward Ruen, who was watching us curiously now. She was no stranger to unusual relationships since it was well known around the city that Ruen had two fathers. Her parents had been in some kind of weird throuple that hadn’t ended with happily-ever-after.

Two of them were dead.

It was the reason she and her twin sister had different last names—Quintana and Trevorrow—to honor both of their fathers.

“Get out,” I told her.

For once, Ruen didn’t challenge me. I guess the night had gotten too weird even for her. She rose from the couch, threw on her clothes, and then, with one last look at Atlas—I guess to assure herself that her friend was safe—she left.

Once she was gone, I stood and left the room to make sure Ruen got to her car safely—not because I cared but because Atlas did—and then I locked the front door before returning to the empty den.

Atlas was gone.

I wandered ino the kitchen to replenish my fluids before heading upstairs. I found Atlas upstairs in our shower, waiting for me.

She gave me a tired smile when I joined her. Coming down now from the sex and drugs, Atlas looked like she could barely keep her eyes open. “I’m sorry I peed on you,” she said as I closed the gap between us. “I don’t know why I did that.”

I crowded her against the wall and trapped her there for my kiss. “Yes, you do, and no, you’re not.”

“I got jealous.”

“Me too.”

“So listen, that was fun, but I’m okay if it’s just us from now on.”

Atlas had no idea how much I needed to hear that. It was a gamble inviting Ruen here. I didn’t know if I was just feeding a monster or vanquishing it once and for all.

I kissed her again, and this time, it lingered. “Bet,” I agreed when I finally came up for air.

We got out once we were clean and were going through our nightly routine once again when Atlas suddenly got a second wind and yelled, “The kit!”

She rushed out of the bathroom without another word, and after I finished brushing my teeth, I threw on some boxers and basketball shorts before following her downstairs.

By the time I reached the last step, Atlas was rushing for the front door with the sealed DNA kit in her hand.

“Stop right there,” I ordered.

Atlas paused and turned to face me. “What?”

“What are you doing?”

She held up the box as if it were obvious. “Mailing this?”

“At one in the morning and in a towel, Atlas?”

She looked down at herself as if forgetting she was practically naked. “Oh.”

I yawned. “Come to bed. We can mail it in the morning.”

“No.” She clutched the box closer to her chest. “I need to do this now.” She hurriedly shook her head when my lips parted to argue. “I can’t explain why. It’s just a feeling, I guess, but it has to be now. We both know what it will say, but I want proof. I want this to be over so that I can be free to love you the way God called me to.”

“I understand that, baby, but everything is closed.”

She held up the box for me to see the top. “Prepaid label. We can just stick it in the mailbox.”

I didn’t point out that it still wouldn’t be collected until morning and just closed the distance between us before taking the box from her. I kissed her lips. “Okay, bae.”

I sighed, slid my feet into my slides, and opened the front door. When Atlas tried to follow me out, I shut that shit down and sent her ass to bed.

As I walked to the mailbox at the end of the drive, I scanned the street out of habit and noticed a car parked three houses down that didn’t belong.

It could have been nothing if not for my predator instincts kicking in and recognizing another trespassing on my hunting grounds.

I played it cool.

I stuck that damn kit inside the mailbox like my girl wanted and pulled the flag up before grabbing the spare gun I had taped underneath. Why? Because I’d be damned if I let a motherfucker catch me slipping while doing something as mundane as checking the goddamn mail.

I started down the street with my heat at my side but didn’t get more than three steps before the car suddenly rumbled to life. The driver turned on their bright lights, making me lift my arm and turn my head away. The driver used that opportunity to escape with the sound of squealing tires.
