Her audible gasp makes me hard. I laugh to myself and shake my head. Fuck Phoebe. I’m Joshua Kylix. I’m the prize.

Chapter 11

Interception

Shawna

Two months later…

I look into the mirror with a huge smile on my face. My makeup and hair look perfect. This silk press is giving me life. The waves and layers are ridiculously lush. I can’t stop running my hands through it to watch it fall back into my face.

I’m pulling off confidence I know I don’t have and it’s all because of him. As soon as Mayven told me Joshua was on his way back from Greece and she was throwing him a party at Pit’s bar, I knew I was going to attend, and I never go out.

My phone rings, and I turn to float over to my bed, where I had tossed it after my last call with Skylar. My smile grows wide when Skittles’s name and a pic of us light my screen. My heart swells at the sight of the picture. From the neck up, we really could pass for twins or sisters, at the least.

“Hey, you,” I answer and sit on the bed.

“You sound like you’re in a good mood. You’re not bailing on tonight, are you?”

“No.” I roll my eyes as if she can see me. “I’m still coming.” I bite my lips and think of the best way to ask my next question. “So, am I going to get to meet your assholes for sure this time?”

“It looks like it. Luke is in town already. Tak’s tour bus will pull in sometime tonight. Deacon says he has one large piece to finish, but he’ll be there and it’s Pit’s bar. I told him I’ll cut his balls off if he tries to skip out.”

I laugh. Those two argue like a married couple. I wish Mayven could see how much I think Pit likes her. As a matter of fact, I think she’s crazy about him too. She just tries to hide it.

I chew on my lip before I ask. “What about Kelex?”

“He called me when his plane landed. He got in from Greece early this morning. All is well so far. I can’t wait. I miss him. Things haven’t been the same without him.”

I release a relieved breath. Good, he’ll be there. I stand and walk back over to the mirror. My light blue jeans hug my thick curves to a T. I went with the high-waisted ones Skittles suggested. The half leather, half sheer peplum top hides my FUPA—I’ve been battling back and forth with over the last few months—and complements my breasts with the sheer wrap top and leather peplum overlay.

I haven’t decided on shoes yet. Josh said he’s six-two. I think I should go with my black thigh-high rider boots. Those will make my booty look amazing but won’t leave me to tower over him.

“Shawnnie, are you listening?”

“Oh, yeah, I’m here.”

“So, I’ll pick you up after I pick up Kelex,” she says.

My heart races. I can’t wait to meet him. “Of course, that’s fine. Thanks for giving me a ride.”

“You know I have you. I want you to have a good time without having to think about how you’ll get home. Hey, listen. That’s Kelex on the other line. I’ll call you back.”

“Okay.”

She hangs up. I zip my boot and do a spin on my toes in front of the mirror, clutching my phone to my chest. I sigh like a schoolgirl.

He told me to run, but he didn’t say in which direction. I think I have a thing for assholes—if they’re anything like Joshua. When I look at old photos of him, I think I fall in love every time.

I remembered him from my aunt’s funeral. He was the one who sat beside Mayven and held her hand. She had all those handsome guys with her that day.

If my cousin had been my hero before, she became a goddess in my eyes that day. At first, I thought he was her boyfriend. After learning they’re only friends, I’ve tried subtly to find out more about him.

When she mentioned he was a former model. I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her I already knew that and used to stalk him and his profiles.

I don’t know why he hasn’t returned to modeling. He’s perfect.

Kelex

“Hey, something has come up,” I say to Skittles as my world reels. I look out the car window as Jeff and I ride in the back seat of his SUV.

“Do you need me to come get you now?”

“No, I’m with Jeff. He’s trying to help me get out of here,” I reply.

“Josh, what’s going on?”

“I’ll tell you when I wrap my head around it. I need to get back to Greece before my father makes that impossible.”

“Is there anything I can do?”
