“Girl, where are you?”

“What’s going on?”

“Your phone was going off?” I reach for it on the counter and see a number I don’t recognize.

It’s followed by a string of text messages.

I’ll be there in twenty minutes.

You better be dressed in your clothes or under the fucking covers naked alone, and the bedroom door locked.

Because I’m coming for you, my little hellcat.

Panties ruined.

Sorry, who is this? Did you get a new number, Steve? I reply with a grin on my face. I don’t know anyone named Steve. I turn my phone to Mack, and she slaps her hand to her mouth.

“Girl, you are asking for it… hard and rough.”

I can’t decide if I want to laugh or faint. “I think I’ve lost it.”

“You’re going to when he gets here.”

“Do you think he’s going to take me to his place?”

“I hope so because he’s going to be a complete animal in a minute.”

I hear sirens in the distance. My pulse races into overdrive as I count the seconds before he comes through the door.

It’s not long until I hear the tires come to a screeching halt. The car door slams closed, and I have my purse over my shoulder. Leaning on the edge of the counter, I act nonchalant when nothing in me is even remotely chill.

Sheriff Jacob Lawrence storms through the door in all his hot glory. “Who the fuck is Steve?”

“No, hello? No, hey, I’m interested in you?” I ask like a smartass begging to be bent over.

“You’re playing with fire, little hellcat.” I know.

“I know, but the thing is I don’t think I even know a Steve.” I smile brightly at the Sheriff and watch as he stalks toward me, losing distance until my back hits the counter and his hands grip me, one in my hair and the other around my waist.

He drags me to him so I can feel his strength possessing me and stares into my eyes. “Mine, Vanessa. No games.” His mouth slams over mine, and I moan, letting him own our first kiss. Quickly it’s over and he’s pulling back. “It’s time to go home.” Without taking his eyes off me, he says, “Sorry, Mack, but visiting hours are over.”

“Have fun.” She winks as I’m tossed over Law’s shoulder like a damn sack of flour.

“You know I can walk just fine.”

“Yes, but you need to be taught a lesson. You want a fucking caveman, you got one.” His hand comes down on my ass and I yelp, clenching my soaked pussy muscles together.

“How?” Did Wrench tell him what we said?

“Don’t challenge a man with another man. I’ll destroy anyone that dares to take my place. I’ve waited years for this.” His hand rubs my ass before he sets me in the passenger seat of a large all-black SUV.

“I thought I heard sirens.”

“It’s equipped as well.” He doesn’t bother telling me to buckle up. Instead, he does it for me, as if he expects me to jump out before he gets to the other side.

“You know I’m going to miss a good dinner, and I’m hungry.”

“Oh, baby girl, I’ll be feeding you really good.”

“Your big dick isn’t dinner.”

“As tempting as stuffing my ten-inch cock between that smart mouth of yours, I’m not talking about that. Some of the Riders’ wives send over dinner for me on occasion. Penny had extras brought over more just in case, I nabbed a pretty blonde with surfing skills.”

“Oh, did she now?” Everyone has heard about my encounter this morning. I was warned that I would get asked for tips at the cookout tomorrow.

The tension in the air is so strong, I want to crawl across the seat and ride his lap. “Relax, we’ll be there soon.”

“I’m not the one acting like a savage.”

“That’s what I am, baby girl. Get used to it.” It’s not long before we’re at his home. It’s a nice two-story farmhouse far away from the rest of the homes in town, just down the road from Cowboy’s ranch.

Chapter Six

Law

She looks gorgeous sitting at my table, eating from the glass plates that, thankfully, Morgan made me buy. I’m going to have to give her a big fucking hug when I see her or maybe a present, so Mick doesn’t try to kill me.

Up until last week, I lived off paper plates. Morgan’s words were exactly, “You’re never going to impress the woman you’re going to marry with paper plates.”

“Now that you’re staying in Steeleville, is there anything you want to pursue?” I ask, taking a drink from my beer. I need to know everything about her to start mapping out our future like a damn cartographer. Truthfully, I want her to tell me about her book and her career as an author.

“I don’t know. It’s not like there’s some career path for me here.” She’s lying to me, which is fine because I already know the truth. My girl is talented, and I couldn’t be prouder.
