“Don’t move.” He palmed her naked tummy and then left the room. A moment later he was back with her nightie, the stuffed bear, and a pacifier. He’d thought of everything.

“Does this poor bear have a name yet?” Daddy asked after he slid the T-shirt over her head. “He’s going to get tired of being called just bear soon.”

Her eyes shot wide. “Do you get tired of being called bear, Daddy?”

He chuckled. “No. I suppose not.” He tickled her tummy. “Though Teddy is a bit silly.”

She giggled as she shoved his hand away. “I think I’ll call him Bear then.” She held him up for Daddy to look. “See? He’s smiling. He likes the name.”

“I suppose you’re right.” Daddy slid her to the center of the bed and pulled the covers over her. “I’ll be right back. Just going to make sure the doors are locked and turn the lights out.”

“Are you afraid I might fall off the bed? Is that why you put me in the center, Daddy?”

He dropped his hands down next to her and kissed her lips. “Nope. But when I climb into bed next to you, I’m going to want to drag you into my arms. I won’t want you sleeping so far away that you’re in another zip code.”

She giggled. Her cheeks heated as she watched him leave the room.

He was the best Daddy in the world, and he really did wash her fears down the drain. Now she just needed to convince herself he was really all hers forever and ever.

Chapter Fifteen

Mondays were the best day of the week. It was the only day Blooms by Daisy was closed. This Monday was going to be particularly fun because Daisy was all set to paint flowers around the nursery this afternoon.

She had help, too. Ellie would be there any minute to paint with her. Daddy wanted her to have a friend over. Plus, he and Garrett were going to go install the panic button in her shop. They were putting one in Little Cakes, too.

Daddy had moved all the furniture to the center of the room and covered it with tarps. He’d also laid plastic down on the floor and taped it to the baseboards so no paint would get on the carpet.

Daisy was giddy with excitement when she heard the doorbell and darted toward the front of the house.

“Slow down, Baby girl,” Daddy admonished as he followed her. “Let Daddy make sure who it is before you open the door, Daisy.”

“Yes, Sir.” She came to a stop, but she could see her friend through the window, so she was bouncing on her toes as Daddy let them in.

While Ellie hugged Daisy, Daddy shook Garrett’s hand. “Thanks for bringing Ellie over to keep Daisy company.”

“Thank you for coming up with the panic button idea. I’m going to feel much better after we have those installed,” Garrett said.

“Daddy, would you mind stopping by my condo to grab me some clean clothes? I bet there’s a pile of mail on the floor, too. The mailman pushes it through a slot on the door.” Daisy hadn’t been home in a few days. If she ended up painting until late in the evening and staying here another night, she would need clothes for work tomorrow.

“I sure will, Baby girl.” He kissed the top of her head. “You two be good. I left you a tray of little sandwiches in the fridge if you get hungry before we get back.”

“Thank you, Daddy.” Daisy rose onto her toes and pulled his head down for a kiss.

“Lock this door behind us,” he commanded as he and Garrett left the house.

As soon as the door clicked closed behind them, the two Littles looked at each other and grinned.

“I’m sorry Riley and Lark couldn’t come today, but I’m glad you’re here. We’re going to have so much fun. Ready to make my nursery beautiful?” Daisy questioned.

“I’m not an amazing artist,” Ellie began.

“I’ve seen your decorating skills. Just pretend you’re making icing flowers,” Daisy suggested.

“I can do that!”

The two gathered all the colors Daisy and her Daddy had selected, popping lids off the cans and arming themselves with brushes.

“Pick a color and a spot. We’ll add the stems later,” Daisy suggested.

Working side by side so they could chatter, the two Littles made their first strokes on the wall. Soon, gorgeous flowers decorated the walls. Daisies appeared on each wall of course, but roses, violets, pansies, and many more colorful blooms joined them. Finally, Daisy stepped back from the wall with her paintbrush tinged with green after adding one final leaf.

Dropping to the floor, the Littles looked around in wonder.

“I want us to paint my nursery next,” Ellie suggested.

“I owe you a favor. Just let me know when you’re ready. What do you want on your walls?” Daisy asked without looking away from the garden in front of them.
