I ended the call and watched the rest of Peter’s lesson. After Prince had been brushed and put back into his stall, Peter and I retrieved the picnic basket Lola had packed for us and headed to a secluded spot on the property that Cathy had suggested.
I knew there would be many more challenges to come, but for now, things were quiet in the wake of the war with the Riccis, and I intended to enjoy every moment of time I had to spend with Peter. When we finished eating, Peter and I lay back and looked up at the clouds. I enjoyed looking for shapes in the sky, something I hadn’t done since I was a kid, but after a while, the feel of Peter’s warm body pressed against mine made me forget about clouds and start thinking about how much I wanted to take him there under the bright blue sky with the warmth of the sun on our bodies.

His eyes lit up. “Are you ready to go home? Maybe we could try some of them tonight.”
“You’re insatiable. That’s one of my favorite things about you.”
Peter laughed, and I hugged him tight, taking a moment to be thankful he’d come into my life and brought the sunshine with him.
