“Really, Blake. The help! How unoriginal.” the woman says before turning her gaze back to me.

“Watch what you say, mother. She is going to be the mother of your grandchildren, and if she feels disrespected, you will never see our children. Now please see yourself out.” Holy hell. This is his mother. I try to remember the pictures in the papers, but I don’t remember her at all.

“Your father is going to hear about this.” she storms out, and I turn to him.

“Well shit.'' This is going to be interesting.

Chapter Seven

BLAKE

Waking up this morning with her beside me, snuggled into me, was more than I could have dreamed. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that her ass pushed against my cock wasn’t pushing me to the brink. Hell, the truth is I have every intention of turning her over and burying my face in her cunt for my morning shot of caffeine. Then I heard the alarm on my front door being disabled, and I knew it was no one but my mom.

I try not to interact with my parents, especially lately, because all that is on their minds is trying to find me a wife, and I am not doing that. Well, not their way. When I was elected, I made it a point to let security know my parents are always welcome here without an appointment, and I gave them the alarm code, not anticipating I would find my wife cleaning my bedroom.

Watching my mom walk out after insulting Lilah, I take a few deep breaths before turning to my woman. I don’t miss the flush on her cheeks from the kiss we shared just a moment ago. The act was purposeful. When I went upstairs and found her gone, I panicked, seeing the passageway from the closet open. I could only assume she heard another woman's voice and assumed something I would never do to her. Not to mention she woke up, and I wasn’t beside her, which is deplorable even to me. When I caught up to her by the front door, I knew my mother was going to spit her vitriol, and I wanted to pre-empt it. No fuck wanted. I needed to show her, in front of my mother, that nothing and no one is above her.

“Are you ok, baby?” I ask her, holding her shoulders and making her look at me.

“I am not sure. I don’t really know how to feel. I can admit that when I heard her voice initially, I thought she was...” her voice dies out at the end, and she doesn’t finish, but she doesn’t need to. I know what she was thinking.

“Look at me, little flower.” her eyes come to mine, unsure and insecure. “I would never fucking disrespect you like that. Ever. I know this is sudden and crazy, and my life is a fishbowl at this moment, but if you believe nothing else that I say to you, please believe me when I say I know what I want, and it is you...forever, beside me.” Disbelief is the chief look in her eyes. I realize right now that not only am I seeing her soul reflected in a mirror, she is trying to cover up, and she is more innocent and delicate than I knew. I am going to have to guard her and protect her even more fiercely than I anticipated. “Such an exquisite and rare creature you are, baby. Skin so soft.” when she leans into my hands, caressing her face, the cement around my heart shatters the rest of the way. This gift I have been given is MINE. “Are you hungry?”

“No. I cannot eat first thing in the morning,” she says softly, eyes shining from unshed tears.

“Anything I should know?” she shrugs and fidgets awkwardly, letting me know she is embarrassed about something.

“Lilah.”

“I uh…I have diverticulitis. My stomach is unsettled when I first awaken, so normally, I have a protein shake or maybe a small bowl of Greek yogurt with some fruit. That is about it, and that is on a good day.”

“Noted. I will keep the house stocked with whatever you need, baby, just say the word. Now, what did you have planned for today?”

“Actually, nothing. I…” her phone chirps from her purse. When she pulls it out and bites her lip, I know it is the man who missed his chance to claim this prize.

“Do you need to get that?” I ask her, giving her a chance to answer it and end it, whatever it is.

“No. I can return the call later,” she says, not looking at me for a few seconds. “Actually, I was going to go to the aquarium. They got a new dolphin family, and I wanted to see them. My friend, Cephonie, is the head marine biologist, so sometimes she lets me come before they open to see the mammals.'' She looks at me like she expects me to turn her down, but she really has no idea how attached to her I really want to be. If she would have said she was going to a laundromat to do laundry I would have followed her. She stabbed me in the heart and broke one of my ribs when she looked at me from the floor two days ago. I am Adam and she is Eve.
