“Damn it. Ok fine. Add a plus one to the list for me and have a car here in two hours.”
“Uhhh, Sir, are you sure you want to have this be the way you introduce her to everyone? This benefit is the who's who of California. This might be overwhelming.”
“I get that. Why do you think I wanted out of it? But I can’t very well leave her here, having her feel like I am ashamed of her or something. So, this is the only alternative.”
“I get that, but what about a dress and her hair and makeup? Surely it is too late to find someone.” He has a good point. Lucky for me, I have a backup plan.
“I will take care of that. Bye.” Hanging up I walk into the kitchen and see her making us some sandwiches. Fuck. We haven't eaten.
“I hope you don’t mind. I am starving. I made you one too.” She looks so proud when she slides the ham sandwich over to me.
“I don’t mind at all, baby. Thank you. So, it turns out I have a benefit to go to tonight for the children’s hospital. I tried to get out of it, but I have to go.” I am texting my sister as I talk to Lilah, telling her I need a couple of dresses and for her to do hair and makeup. When she asks me the size of the dresses, I look up only to see Lilah wiping her face before she hides her feelings and begins walking away.
“That’s fine. Thank you so much for coming with me to the aquarium. I had a nice time.” She walks past me toward the foyer, and I find myself cursing and growling at the same time.
“Why the hell are you always running away from me? Do you want to watch me go insane? Where do you think you are going?” I ask her pulling her into my arms, making her face me.
“Home. You need to get ready to go.” she says like it is a done deal that we are done or something.
“Christ, baby. What do I have to do to get you to understand that when I move, you move.” she almost slices my heart open when she smiles and responds?
“Just like that, huh.” This damn girl. I kiss her, hoping like hell she can read the desperation in my onslaught. Prying she can feel the primal need inside of me that seems to only exist when she is in the room. When her tiny fists grip my shirt and she moans into my mouth, I know my thoughts have been received.
“Just like that baby. You are coming with me.”
“What...no... I don’t go to…things like that. Plus, I don’t have a dress and my hair is a mess and…” she is rattling on, clearly nervous, but it's too late. If she is not beside me every second of every day, I am going to be a waste of space.
“I have all of that covered.” Ding Dong. “Right on time.” Here comes the hurricane.
Chapter Eight
LILAH
I am going on a date. No. Wait. Not a date...or is it? Who cares? There are going to be cameras and important people around. I can’t...and what does he mean he took care of it. Ding. Dong. He walks to the door and my first instinct is to run. I mean I can go right now out the back door, call an Uber, and hide. I should, right? But then I would not be here, with him and I like being around him. He makes me feel sexy and special. Not to mention I am super horny. I am so turned on I texted my sister and asked her if something was wrong with me. Lily laughed and told me it was normal and to go with it. Of course, she would say that.
“I never thought I would see the day you would be calling me to dress someone for you. Finally found your inner Christian Grey, huh?” Blake and his sister walk into the room, and I want to hide. Like crawl under a blanket and hide. His sister is only the most talked about celebrity stylist in California. Everyone knows who Alaina Crimson is and not because of who her family is. No. She broke away from their family when she was eighteen. She changed her last name and forged a modeling career, even to their parents' chagrin. She was the highest paid model until five years ago when she suddenly disappeared and then reemerged a year later, and she was no longer modeling. “Well, hello.” she says, smiling at me.
“Hi.” I say lamely, not sure what else to say.
“Oh, big brother she is stunning. What is she doing with you?” I can't help but giggle when he ruffles her hair, and she elbows him.
