Holy. Heck.

“But West is going to kill me!” Beau yelled.

Scarlett narrowed her gaze. “What did you do?”

“He told me my baby is going to have a bowling ball head. I’m going to have to push out a bowling ball head baby!” Flick cried.

Was this even happening?

She turned with wide eyes to Clem, who was grinning as she sat back in her chair. “See what I mean?” Clem sent her a wink.

Dear Lord.

“Beau, you didn’t!” Scarlett breathed out in horror.

“I’m sorry, Flick! I didn’t mean it,” Beau said, looking repentant as he put his son down. “I was having West on. I didn’t mean to upset you. He won’t have a bowling ball head. He’s going to be all you. Sweet, gorgeous, with a tiny head.”

“Are you saying my head is tiny?” Flick asked.

“I’m going to go help with lunch!” Beau ran off.

Lara and Butch followed him. Lara giggling, and Butch shaking his head.

Flick sat back with a satisfied smile. “That was fun.”

Wait. Had she done that on purpose?

West shot her a look, but to Hannah’s surprise, he didn’t scold her. Instead, he sat next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, and talked to her quietly.

Mia, Lara, and Butch entered, setting trays of food down on the table.

“Oh, can I help?” she asked, standing. Shoot. She should have already offered.

“I’m not allowed to help anymore,” Clem said. “Last time, I dropped a bowl of potatoes. On my foot. They were really good potatoes too. I miss those potatoes.”

Umm.

“Nearly done,” Mia told her with a smile.

Raid helped her sit back down and put his hand on her thigh, squeezing. When she looked at him, he winked.

Beau came in with some more food and a contrite look on his face. They all sat, and the men started filling their women’s plates.

Wow. That was just another sign of how these men doted on their women. They made sure the women and children were fed first.

Raid did the same for her as the food came around. When they all settled in to eat, she glanced down at her plate, noticing Raid hadn’t put much on it.

That was surprising, since he seemed to be constantly trying to feed her. But she guessed he was learning that she didn’t have a huge appetite.

“Mia, this all looks delicious,” she told the other woman.

“Then why don’t you have more on your plate?” West asked.

Um. Huh.

“Raid, put more food on her plate,” West added with a frown.

“Hannah doesn’t eat much,” Raid explained.

“There’re no seconds around here,” Lara said with a smile. “You might want to get more in now.”

“Oh, this is fine for me. Really, I don’t need much.”

Everyone stared at her, then their gazes moved to Raid.

“You need more,” West said bossily.

“West, leave her alone,” Flick said, shifting around in her chair, clearly uncomfortable.

Actually, she didn’t look great if Hannah was honest. She was kind of pale and she’d just grimaced.

Could be heartburn.

Could be something else.

Hannah suddenly realized everyone was quiet and staring at her. The women with concern. The men with . . . something else. Something intense.

“You want some more potatoes?” Clem asked. “I can share some of mine.”

Hannah glanced down at the mound of potatoes on Clem’s plate and her lips twitched. “Thank you, but no. I don’t eat much nowadays.”

Everyone grew more tense.

“What is it? Is something wrong?” she asked.

“You need to do something about that,” Alec said, staring at Raid.

“Everything is fine. Leave it alone. All of you,” Raid replied firmly.

“You feeling all right, brother?” Beau asked.

“I was feeling better before you all started interfering,” Raid grumbled.

Suddenly, she didn’t feel like eating much at all. Not only had Hannah thought it was strange that Raid wasn’t reacting to her lack of appetite, she now got the feeling that everyone thought it was odd too.

He was handling her with kid gloves. Why hadn’t she realized that before? Oh, he had moments of pure bossiness. But he often seemed to rein himself in.

Was he worried about scaring her?

“Ow!” Flick let out a low groan.

Hannah’s gaze went to her, and she stood. “Flick?”

“Flick? What is it? What’s wrong?” West jumped to his feet, his chair crashing on the floor. “What is it?”

“It’s all right. I’m just . . . I think I’m in labor.”

“How long have you had pains for?” Hannah asked, coming around to the other side of the table where Flick was trying to stand while West had a hand on her shoulder, keeping her down.

“Um, about four hours.”

“What?” West roared. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I didn’t want you to freak out.”

“I’m not going to freak out! Why would I freak out? Fuck, we need to go to the hospital. Now. Where’re my keys?” West stormed off, and they all stared at the door in shock.

“Yeah, that’s what I was trying to avoid,” Flick muttered.
