“I’m sure you do that often enough,” she snaps.

“The fuck?” I yelp, shocked.

“Oh, what’s the matter, Cowboy, cat got your tongue?” She uses my phrase on me. “Please, you think I don’t know that you do this all the time.” She raises her eyebrows. “Please, spare me the hurt act.”

“You think I do this all the time?” I glare at her. “Really? Living in the small town I grew up in, so everyone knows me from when I was born until now.” I walk around the bed to her but stop far enough away because if I get too close, I’ll end up touching her, and then this talk will be drawn out. “For your information—”

She holds her hand up to stop me from talking. “You have a bed in your office,” she practically shouts. “In your office, a bed. Don’t tell me that I’m any different from anyone else.”

“Okay, one.” I hold up my finger. There isn’t another woman on this planet who gets me hot and cold like she does. One minute, I want to kiss the ever-loving shit out of her, then the next, I want to turn her over my knee and spank her while pleasuring her. “The bed is there because I have a son who sometimes wanted to come visit with his father when he was younger. So I got him the bed to nap on if I ever worked too late.”

“You let your child into a bar?” she asks, and I laugh.

“It’s the South,” I remind her, rolling my eyes. “I own the bar, and there was a sitter with him the whole time.” She gawks at me. “I hated waking up without you,” I tell her softly. “Hated it more than anything in my life.” I move to stand beside her, taking in her smell, my hand coming up to cup her cheek. Her eyes go a touch darker, and when you are this close to her, you see the little freckles on her nose. “Promise me you won’t run out on me again.”

“Gabriel,” she says my name in a plea, “we really shouldn’t be doing this.”

“That wasn’t what I asked you, Sweetheart.” I step closer to her, and she looks up at me. “I asked you to promise me you won’t run out on me again.” My arm goes around her waist.

“Considering there isn’t going to be a next time”—she stays adamant in her decision that this isn’t going to happen again—“I promise I won’t run out on you again.”

“Thank you, Sweetheart.” I ignore the fact she looks like she is going to kill me. “Now, I’m going to take a shower, and then we can get started on round two.” I kiss her lips, and she lets me. I smile down at her. “And just in case there were some unspoken words, we’re waking up together tomorrow morning.”

ZARA

Speechless, that is what I am as I watch him walk out of the bedroom with his pants hanging on his hips. His chest is mouth-watering and perfect, but it’s nothing to all the muscles in his back. My mouth waters as I make it down to his ass that fills out the jeans that look like they’ve been worn for years. “Keep watching me, Sweetheart, and I’m going to drag you into the shower with me.” He looks over his shoulder, and his black hair falls in front of his face. The smile he gives me is almost devilish.

“You can’t stay here,” I tell his back, and he laughs all the way to the bathroom, ignoring everything that I just said to him. Ignoring it all and doing exactly what he said he was going to do. “Motherfucker,” I huff out and sit on the bed, letting my heart settle in my chest. My eyes are on the doorway he just walked out of. “What did you do?” I ask myself as I rush to the drawer to take a pair of underwear out, then slide them on. “You had sex against a fucking door,” I remind myself, “and you didn’t even notice he didn’t have a condom on.” It’s the same talk I had with myself when I went into the bathroom, with my head held high but my pants hanging on to one leg. “How was that the hottest sex you’ve ever had?” I ask myself. “Oh, I don’t know, maybe because no one has pushed me against a door and devoured me and then rammed into me.” I put my hand on my head. “Jesus, it was animalistic.” I fold one of my legs under me before carefully sitting down with a wince. “Maybe not goading the cowboy to fuck you harder with his dick the size of a bat would be a good thing.”

I’m thinking of ways to tell him to leave when I hear footsteps in the hallway. My head turns to look at him, expecting him to walk back in with his boxers. But not this man. He comes in totally fucking naked as the day he was born, with the towel in his hand drying his hair. “The water pressure in there sucks.”
