“I’m coming,” he assures me as both of our phones ping at the same time. “I hate wearing ties.” He pulls at his collar. “I feel like I’m being strangled.”

“Batcall,” we both say at the same time, looking at each other as I take out my phone from my inside jacket pocket while Christopher holds his in his hand.

Uncle Matthew Sr.: Holy shit, Romeo just won an Oscar.

It’s followed by a picture of Romeo on the stage talking.

“Holy shit,” Christopher says, “the motherfucker did it.”

“It was a great movie,” I remind him, looking over at him as we walk into the kitchen. I go straight to the fridge for a water bottle, my shoulder hurting me as I reach out. “Tweaked my fucking shoulder.”

Christopher laughs. “That’s what happens when you try to show off.”

“You hip-checked me into the boards.” I point at him as I take a pull of the water.

“It was a soft tap. Don’t be such a pussy.” He looks back down at his phone when another ping comes in.

“What were the chances that the All-Star Game was in Vegas at the same time as the award ceremony, giving everyone three days off after?” The All-Star Game was a highlight for the fans and some of the players. They choose the best of the best to come out and play together. Out of everyone in the family, Christopher and I were the only ones who were there. Dylan, Tristan, and Xavier all opted out of going to spend time with the family. I guess if I had my own kids and stuff, I would have opted out of it also. As soon as the game was done, we hopped on a plane and headed to L.A.

“I want to say it was a coincidence, but knowing Uncle Matthew, he probably had a talk with someone.” Our uncle is the biggest name in the hockey world. He was once GM for New York, but then his father-in-law gave him the team, so he’s now the owner. He has his hand in many pots, and talk around the league is he is in negotiations to purchase another team, but we aren’t sure which one. He has his eyes on a couple, and he mentioned even going to the West Coast.

“Car is here.” Christopher looks up from his phone, his face now filled with a bit of worry.

I nod at him, heading toward the door of our rented condo. “On a scale of one to ten, how freaked do you think Gabriella will be once he tells her they’re getting married tonight?”

“That depends,” Christopher starts, “if she’s had some wine, she might be okay. If she’s nervous, I’m going to go with he doesn’t stand a chance. It’s a toss-up, really.”

He gets in the back seat of the car and pulls up his phone to FaceTime Abigail. She answers after one ring and looks like she’s rushing. “What do you want?”

“Is that any way to talk to your older brother?” he asks, pretending to be shocked.

“And your favorite cousin.” I stick my head into the frame, seeing Abigail, and it looks like she’s been crying. “Why are you crying?” I ask, worried.

“Oh my God, did she say no?” Christopher asks. “We’re still having the party, right?”

“What is wrong with you?” I gawk at him.

“I’m hungry, and if I know my parents and also Romeo’s parents, they ordered a feast tonight,” he explains.

“She said yes, obviously,” Abigail relays. “We are on our way over to the house.”

“Good,” Christopher says. “We’re on our way there also.”

“See you there.” She hangs up before we ever say goodbye.

I pull up my Instagram, going to check and see what I missed. There are posts from the all-star game, but then I see a post from Abigail. It’s a picture of her and Tristian all dressed up, and when I swipe right, I spot her. Ryleigh. The woman who I’ve been secretly, and not so secretly, crushing on since I met her. I’ve seen her twice, and both times have been surreal. Especially the last time I saw her. My plan was to ask her out, maybe even flirt with her. What happened was so much better. Spotting her right when I came out of the bathroom was a sign I should do more. The fucking dress was a man’s wet dream. Her pale skin looked like it felt like velvet if you touched it. It drove me wild. It was sexy and classy at the same time, and my cock sprang up even before I touched her. Pushing my way into the bathroom and making out with her was hands down the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. Fuck, did she drive me crazy. I could spend the day just fucking kissing her, and I’d be a happy man. She’s wearing her black hair pulled back, and her bangs pulled to the side. Her eyes have more makeup on than I’ve seen her in before, and they now look a deep green. But my eyes roll down her outfit. This time, she went with a sleeveless lilac-colored dress. The straps at her shoulders look like they’re a bunch of material, but my eyes go to her tits, which look like there’s a trace of lace sticking out. Then they roam down to her waist, where it appears she’s wearing a belt, but it’s fabric. The bottom seems like it’s full of material, but then it looks like lace underneath. I have no idea what it is, but I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
