“Oh, God,” I panted as his tongue raked firmly against me. I could feel the storm of pleasure brewing inside of me. My breath caught and a wave of pleasure crashed over me. There was no doubt that he knew I was coming as I writhed beneath him, but he didn’t stop. He continued to tease me relentlessly, intensifying my orgasm, and I muttered his name over and over again.
I was floating on the high of my release when I heard him whisper, “Better than I could’ve imagined.”
Things didn’t end there. In fact, it was just the beginning, but the memory dissipated when I heard voices outside of my room. I shook off my daze and finished getting ready. Once the coast was clear, I slipped out the back and headed to my car. I thought I’d made it until I rounded the corner and ran smack dab into the center of Weston’s chest.
I looked up at him, and my breath caught in my throat when I saw the longing look in his eyes. Before I could react, his lips descended upon mine. His arm slipped around my waist, pulling me close, and I gasped, giving him the opportunity to delve deeper into my mouth. I didn’t push back or tell him to stop. I couldn’t. It felt too good to be in his arms, so I let myself have the moment—even if it was just that.
A moment.
Nothing more.
But it was enough.
There was more to this connection of ours than I realized, and I wanted a chance to see where it could take us. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen—no matter how badly I wanted it to.
I placed my hand on his chest and gave him a slight push, breaking our embrace. He looked down at me with disappointment and regret, but he didn’t say a word. Neither of us did. There wasn’t any point. Nothing we had to say would change anything, so we did the only thing we could.
We took our moment and left.
Memphis
“You working tonight?”
“I’m down for the late shift.”
“Me, too.” After my encounter with Toni, I wasn’t in the mood for small talk. I just wanted to enjoy my beer in silence and try to put the day behind me, but Goose had other plans. He grabbed a cold one and sat down next to me. “Don’t know if you’ve heard, but the sales on our new stuff are through the roof.”
“Yeah, I heard. Can’t say I’m surprised. This stuff is some of the best around.”
“You’re not kidding. Rusty and I gave it a try a few nights back, and it was an experience.” A smirk crossed his face as he added, “You should’ve seen Rusty. Dude had only taken a couple of hits, and he was stoned out of his gourd and...”
Before he could finish his thought, Dad walked in and said, “Didn’t expect to see you here.”
“Didn’t plan to be here, but I am just the same.”
“When did you get in?”
“About half an hour ago?” I lifted my now empty bottle as I told him, “Just grabbing a beer before my shift.”
“Went that well, huh?”
“Typical Mom stuff.” I shrugged. “I should’ve never gone by there.”
“How come?”
“She was having one of her big shindigs and didn’t really have time for anything else.”
“I see.” He cocked his brow. “And how ‘bout your little sister? Was she there?”
“You know I hate when you call her that.”
“Yeah, that’s why I do it.” He chuckled. “So, she was there.”
“She was.”
“Well, that explains the foul mood.” I’d made the mistake of telling him about Toni and how I’d thought she was the one. He wasn’t all that understanding when I told him that mom was marrying her dad. He thought I should go for it and let the cards fall where they may, and there were times, like today, when I thought he might be right. “You just need to fuck this girl and get her out of your system.”
“If only it was that easy.”
“Well, you gotta do something because this shit’s been going on long enough.”
“That’s just it. There’s nothing I can do.”
“That’s bullshit, and you know it,” Dad fussed. “You two are grown-assed adults. Hell, it wasn’t like you grew up together. You were grown when you met.”
“I know, Dad. I know. I’ve heard it all before.”
“Well, maybe you should actually listen this time, because you’re wasting your life away with this shit.”
“It’s not just me. She’s got a say in this, too.”
“Well, if she’s not willing to take a chance, then you gotta let her go. You can’t keep letting this eat at ya.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right.”
“So, what are you going to do?”
“I’ll figure it out.” I stood and stepped away from the counter. “I gotta get to work.”
“You don’t have to be there for another hour.”
“Then, I’ll take the long way.”
