“But I don’t really do anything. I’m just here.”

“And that’s what I need. You’re what I need.”

Without saying anything more, he took my hand and led me down the hall to his room. As soon as we reached the bed, he pulled me close and began nibbling along the curve of my neck again, and that was all it took. The dam broke, and there was little I could do to stop it.

I watched in awe as he removed his shirt and tossed it to the floor. He dropped his hands to my waist while my fingers trailed along the curves of his perfectly defined chest. The wild look in his eyes shot straight to my core. “Tell me you will stay.”

“Wes.”

“I mean it, Toni.” His voice was low and gruff as he whispered, “I want you here—day and night... in my house and in my bed.”

I’d never had a problem speaking my mind, but at that moment, my thoughts were in a frenzy, and it was hard to form any words. I took a moment to collect myself and eventually replied, “I’ll stay.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, he kissed me, and any lurking doubts in the back of my mind disappeared. His hands became rough and impatient as they skated over my breasts and cupped them in his palms. He caressed each through the fabric of my shirt, making me feel so wanted, so utterly desirable, that I couldn’t get enough.

The warmth of his breath brushed over my skin as he said in a hushed tone, “So fucking incredible.”

My heart raced as his hand inched its way down my stomach and slipped under the waistband of my leggings. When his fingers drifted lower, in between my legs, my entire body shivered with anticipation as his fingertips grazed the lining of my lace panties.

I loved the feeling of Wes’s hands on my body. Every single touch added fuel to the fire and made me yearn for more. I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes as he eased the fabric of my panties to the side. I had no doubt he’d find I was already wet as his fingers skillfully slid inside me.

My breath caught when he began teasing my clit with the pad of his thumb, using just the right amount of pressure that made my knees weak. It felt incredible, better than I’d ever dreamed possible, and within a couple of minutes, my orgasm started to take hold. As soon as his fingers curled deep inside and hit my G-spot, I was done.

With a satisfied moan, my head fell back, and my entire body trembled as the force of my climax surged through me, causing me to mumble repeatedly, “Oh God, yes!”

I was practically floating, but my blissful haze quickly turned to disappointment when Wes removed his hand from my panties. My eyes met his, and I nearly came again when he said, “Fucking hell, woman. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get enough of you.”

I didn’t respond. I was too consumed with desire to form the words, so I dropped my hands to the waistline of Wes’s pajamas and lowered them down his hips. I was lost in the moment. I had no idea what the future held for us, and I didn’t care. I just wanted to be there with him in the here and now.

So, I pushed all the worries and doubts from my mind and let myself get lost in the moment. And it was wonderful. We spent the better part of the day tangled in each other’s arms, and we saved the worries of tomorrow for another day.

But they were coming.

Sooner than either of us could’ve imagined.

“She killed her husband!”

“Yeah, she did.”

“In his fucking sleep.”

“It could’ve been worse. He could’ve known it was coming.”

“But she dismembered him and buried the pieces all around town.”

Toni was sitting on the sofa next to me with her knees drawn up to her chest, and her eyes remained glued to the TV as she answered, “Yeah.”

“And it took some dog finding a foot for her to get caught.”

“Yeah, isn’t that crazy?”

“Crazy isn’t the right word.” I shook my head. “I can’t believe you like this shit. Might as well be watching a horror flick.”

“Oh no. I can’t take those. They mess with my head.”

“And this shit doesn’t?”

“No, not at all.”

“I don’t see the difference.”

“I like thinking about the case and why they did what they did and the methods they used to get away with it—or at least tried to get away with it.” She actually believed what she was saying as she explained, “But scary movies are all about fear and jump scares. It’s just so over the top and unbelievable.”

“Nah, I’m not buying it.” I turned off the TV as I told her, “You’re just watching this shit so you can find a way to kill me someday.”
