“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I yell, chest rising and falling.

“Me?” He laughs, bitterly. “You’re the one who just beat that man to death.”

“I thought it was you.”

He grunts. “Well, aren’t I lucky.”

“You used an innocent person. What sort of psycho are you?” I growl.

“He was far from innocent, and you’re one to throw that word around, considering you didn’t even stop and think before pummeling him to death. I’ll give it to you, I was curious about what weapon you would create to carry out your plan. I’m impressed, that can’t have been easy to get off.”

I stare down at the bed leg in my hand; his eyes move to it, too.

“What the fuck do you want from me?” I snarl, dropping the leg into the snow.

“I want information. You give it to me, I let you leave.”

It’s never going to happen.

I can’t give him the information he wants because that information would have me killed. I’m not taking the risk.

“I’m not giving you a thing.”

He raises the gun. “Then you better get back in your little shelter.”

I stare at the cold steel facing me. I could attempt to run, but I’m unlikely to get far before he shoots me, and the last thing I need is to be injured and stuck out here. I’ll come up with something else. For now, I’ll let him think he has won.

“Best of luck dealing with that.” I nod at the body on the ground. “It won’t be easy dragging that through the snow.”

He doesn’t even flinch. “Trust me, I’ve done worse.”

With a shrug, I turn on my heel and walk back into the shelter. Even though my chest is tight with rigid anxiety and my palms are sweating, I don’t let it show. I won’t let him think he’s going to beat me, not even for a second. I have to be smarter, wiser, more cunning. The door squeaks as it begins to close, but a pause has me glancing over my shoulder to see him staring at me, a look on his face that I can’t quite read.

“You just killed a man, and you’re acting like you just came out of a day spa. It’s fuckin’ terrifying.”

He has no idea.

None.

Holding his eyes, I say in a low voice, “He isn’t the first, nor the last.”

“Why am I not surprised?” he mutters.

I raise my brows. “Careful, biker, you might be on my list soon.”

“Can’t be on a list when you don’t know my name,” he throws back.

I turn to face him now. “That won’t make any difference. I know what you look like, I know what club you’re from. It doesn’t take much to figure out the rest.”

He looks mildly impressed. “You’re a bad girl, Acacia.”

I smile at him. “You really have no idea. Now, tell me, are you going to give me your name or not? You know, considering it won’t make any difference when I come for you.”

“It’s Mex. That’s all you need to know.”

I purse my lips. “Parents didn’t like you much, hey?”

His eyes flash. “Mex isn’t my real name.”

“Ohhh, a club name. For the big boys. What’s Mex stand for?”

“None of your fuckin’ business.”

“Let me guess, Mexican? Oh, or Mexico? It has to be one of the two. Nothing else would be unique enough.”

He doesn’t answer.

“Okay, Mexican it is then.”

“Don’t fuckin’ call me Mexican.”

I grin. “So, it’s Mexico. I knew I’d get it out of you one way or another. Tell me, Mexico, what gave you such a boring name?”

His jaw ticks. “Cross me, you might find out.”

I put my hands up. “Ohhh, so scary. Are you going to take me to Mexico and bury my body?”

He steps into the container and charges toward me. It happens so quickly that, for a moment, I’m shocked. I take two big steps backward, but there is nowhere else for me to go once I reach my mattress fort. I stop, and his big body looms over mine, staring down at me with a wild rage that has his nostrils flaring, his jaw tight, and his eyes threatening all kinds of violence.

“What are you going to do, big Mexico? Hit me?” I purr, a sly grin on my face.

He doesn’t answer, he just looks down at me with the promise of deep violence if I continue to push his buttons.

Unluckily for him, that has never stopped me before.

“If you’re going to storm in here and act a hero, at the very least savagely take me against the counter, like a true dark romance biker would.”

“The shit that comes out of your mouth is utter bullshit.”

“That’s what the romance biker would say, right before he ripped her clothes off and plunged his cock deep inside her body.”

“Haven’t been fucked for a while? Is that your problem.”

I grunt. “I get fucked plenty.”
