“Stay with me,” she whispered.
“I want to. More than anything. But innocent people will die tonight if I don’t clean up the mess he left behind. Women and children might die in the power struggle. I have to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
“Then you should go,” she said firmly, staring at me with the hard confident eyes of a mafia queen.
She’s transforming already. And I feel blessed to watch it.
I glance at my phone, my chest lighting up when I read her last text.
So glad you’re going to be home soon. I miss you so much.
I let my head fall back on the headrest, closing my eyes so the sun glows blood-red against my eyelids, and wait until it’s time to see my queen again.
I approach the room slowly, my body aching the closer I get. The men are all gone now, returned to security posts dotted around the property. Paulie and his men were injured but alive, thankfully, and it looks like they’re going to survive.
I find it difficult to think about any of that when my manhood is pulsing in my pants.
I swallow a ball of desire and then push the door open.
Toto runs at me, tail wagging madly, panting and making his patented Toto whining noises. He jumps up on his hind legs, pawing at the air, his tongue hanging out the way it does when he wants to be picked up.
I chuckle and scoop him into my arm. He immediately curls up, getting ready for another Toto specialty, sleeping in my arms.
Maria and Lucy are sitting on the balcony, a checkers board set between them. I pause and take in the unbelievable simple perfection of the moment. My aunt and my woman are playing checkers together.
How can something be so mundane and yet so beautiful at the same time?
Lucy gazes at me, emotion writ across her face, her eyes glimmering. She’s wearing a gray hoodie and some sweatpants, but my eyes tear the clothes away, my mind flooded with the fresh naked image of her. I force it away, reminding myself that Maria is here.
She stands and walks over, staring up at me with tears glinting in her eyes.
“Luca,” she whispers.
“Lucy.”
I slide my hand over her shoulder and pull her close to me, Toto nestled between us. Maria turns and smiles at me, nodding as if to say, You did it, Luca. You kept her safe.
“Is Aldo staying the night?” Maria asks after a moment.
I rest my chin on Lucy’s head, holding her closer as I answer. “Yes. I think he’s in the garden.”
“Excellent. Then I shall go and see him and leave you two alone. Come on, Toto.”
I separate from Lucy, my body aching from the brief break in contact, and hand Toto to Maria. He protests for a moment, giving me a side-eye, but he’s soon whining contentedly when Maria strokes him behind the ears.
She leaves the room, closing the door behind her. The lamplight makes the room hazy and atmospheric.
Lucy turns towards the window, her arms folded across her middle, staring at the estate as the final moments of sunshine touch it. Her curvaceous figure becomes a silhouette, outlined dreamily, making it difficult for me to focus on anything except the way her pants hug her round juicy ass.
I sense some pain in her. It’s in the way her shoulders tremble and the way her fingernails claw further and further around her body like she’s trying to hug herself. Like she’s forgotten that’s my job.
I stalk up behind her and wrap my arms around her body, pressing myself against her.
“What are you thinking about?” I ask.
“I want to capture this moment,” she whimpers, her arms relaxing and her hands rising up to grip onto mine. “I want to remember how grateful I am that you returned. I want to have that forever, so I can remind myself of what we have.”
“We have the world,” I whisper in her ear, kissing her cheek, my body blazing at the cute way she tilts her head. “We have each other and we have a future I’m willing to do anything to protect. I’m so sorry you were in that situation, Lucy. Nobody had ever dared to attack the estate before. I was arrogant. I’m replacing all our home defenses. Nobody will ever be able to touch us again.”
She turns in my arms, looking up at me, her eyes brimming. Her hands claw onto my shoulders and she stares firmly at me like she wants us to melt into each other as badly as I need to. Like she knows how special every second together is.
“So what are your plans for tonight?”
She tilts her head, cute-as-fuck, and my manhood burns at the base, my shaft hardens, even more, my helm bulging as seed writhes up and down my hard cock in anticipation.
